What's going on there? He's one of those players (and I hate this as he plays for you lot) that I love to watch, he understands the game and seems to play at a different level to other players, he can control a game, he can pick a pass and he can get you a goal when you need composure late in the game. He's also happy to put a shift in and do the hard work when required. Didn't even get on the pitch today in a game where it seemed you lacked ideas, he's just what you needed? You'll have no trouble selling him.
@ that last bit. Agree with the rest. I called it at the start with Januzaj. He had a good game but was targeted physically by the Newcastle midfield and defence and as always with Januzaj he gets hot-headed (a sign of youth I suppose). It was clear as fck in the second half that Herrera needed to come on, either to support him or to replace him. LVG brings on Valencia and Carrick. I don't mind us dropping 2 points if we gave it our absolute all today. The players on the pitch did, but LVG didn't sadly. BTW Herrera is my favourite player at Utd right now, without a shadow of a doubt.
He's not going to sit on your bench all season though, there'll come a time where he'll want away if he isn't getting game time. He should be starting imo and I'm glad he's not.
We're in 4 comps Luv and I think that keeps getting forgotten. He should get plenty of games and will start plenty as well. I don't begrudge Januzaj starting ahead of him as he's looked decent in the games he's played so far and LVG's giving a youngster a chance. I do think Herrera is our most creative player along with Mata, but with a bit more dynamism to his game.
Yeah perhaps you're right but I think today showed that LVG just doesn't have much faith in him which would worry me if I was a Utd fan.
No, I think LVG has too much faith in himself. There's a fine line between self-belief and pig-headed stubborness. Van Gaal is treading a fine line between both.... ...as he did last season in all manner of ways, including Herrera when he hardly played him until the last half of the season.
It all depends what games Herrera gets. Last season he had to wait half a season to get regular football. He put up with that, but then we only had league games. This season LVG may not have started him in our first 3 league games but if he starts in the CL group games and gets 8 or 9 league starts - all by xmas, I think he'll be fine. Squads need rotation. The problem is though that LVG is either too pig-headed or supremely self-confident that he feels he doesn't need to bring on Herrera or start him in certain games, in which case we will suffer.
Herrera will leave at the end of the season. He'll go on to be a top player for another big club. I can see him being a star for Barcelona. Cracking player.
Like Treble says there's loads of footy to play and as long as he gets on the pitch he'll play himself into LVG's plans imo as he's that good. Only problem is how long will it take LVG to realise how good he is and how many points dropped during this period. From a selfish point of view I hope he's on the bench until Christmas at least.
He must be frustrated watching Januzaj getting knocked off the ball for fun and two DCM playing against a Newcastle team that came for a point. If I was him I'd be thinking about moving on as why should he start this season as a squad player when he was so good in the second half of last season?
There's a rumour West ham are in for Januzaj on loan. I am ready to drive to Old Trafford, pick him up, and take him to London myself. Not good enough and never will be, how he keeps a genuine talent like Herrera out of the side is one of the most baffling things I've seen in football. Herrera has in his favour the fact that this is more than likely Carrick's final full season and that Schweinsteiger has probably two at the top and one as a bit part, max, while he's with us. He really is the long time CM mainstay along with Schneiderlin but right now he should be playing at the peak of a midfield three behind Rooney and it's nothing short of ridiculous that he isn't.
Herrera should be our regular AM. I think Januzaj deserves a chance to develop but I LVG's got it the wrong way round atm. Get Januzaj playing the Capital One games and the subs appearances in league games or against some of the lesser teams. Having said that, a home game against a team like Newcastle. No disrespect but we should be winning that with the side we put out.
I'm fairly sure with Herrera creating or putting away some chances we would have. Januzaj did absolutely zero on both fronts. Course we should have won, Newcastle are bottom half standard at very best.
We should but we had enough chances to win that game. clear chances on goal, smalling against the post. Herrera will proably come on next time but I suspect we will more options with Fellaini coming back from suspension.
