I don't believe this for a second. There was no need for Herrera to do this as it's widely regarded (by UIR ) that he was the best midfielder in Spain last year and made Xavi cry at the prospect of facing him. Therefore no need to match fix when he was clearly going to win any game for his team that he was involved in.
Ander Herrera – statement: In an on-going legal process involving Real Zaragoza (Spain), the club I was honoured to play from 12 until 22 years of age, there are 41 people cited as possible witnesses, of which I am one. I have never had and will never have anything to do with manipulating match results. If I am ever called to testify in any judicial hearing, I’ll be happy to attend, as my conscience is totally clear. I love football and I believe in fair play, both on and off the pitch. I agree. The players are the least likely to be done for this. Be hard to prove anything beyond reasonable doubt. The levente players though. Truly ****ed.
Bog standard statement, did you expect him to say he's guilty if he is? . he withdrew cash from an account set up to pay bribes though, it's alleged. I assume there's a paper trail so.
Probably, but won't necessarily prove anything. Most footballers don't manage their own money, so it would probably be his agent who did any dirty stuff, if there was any. Didn't Kieron Dyer avoid a driving ban by saying he didn't see his fixed penalty as his agent opens all his mail?
'an' account or his own account? Why would Zaragoza set up an account to pay bribes? Dumbest thing I've heard. Just imagine the Board meeting when the president of the club says "Right everyone, we're going to pay off Levante to avoid relegation. We better be really careful we don't get caught, not do anything mindnumbingly dumb fck stupid to suggest a hint of impropriety. Now...the first thing we need is to open an account. We'll call it the Levante Bribe Account and we'll get all our players to deposit and withdraw money from it." If it was his own account then unless they can somehow trace banknotes, it's just circumstantial. Players withdraw amounts like that for a day at the races, just ask Paul Merson!
He might get a tax bill. That seems about it. Be very hard to find him guilt or any player from zaragoza.
