I could see Benteke thinking of us as a stepping stone club, coming to us for a couple of years before moving on higher.

I honestly can't see City or Chelsea going for him this summer, and I'm not sure that Wenger would take him for Arsenal. Liverpool I'm sure would be interested, but they have a lot of repair work to do elsewhere in their side, so if they feel that they can keep Sturridge for a whole season, then they might not concern themselves with spending big on a striker. So in the PL that leaves Utd and Spurs - and the latter have their golden boy scoring left, right and centre, so again might be a side who are unwilling to spend big on a striker this summer. But Utd...

They've got Origi upfront too from next season.

Hate to say this (tin hat time), but I think most people would see Villa as a biiger club than us, plus they are in the FA cup final... I think Benteke would see Villa as a stepping stone club.
I could see him coming here when Lambert was still in charge and he didn't look the player he was before, but there's no reason for him to come to us now.
I think he'd only go to City, Chelsea or Utd now (or Liverpool/Spurs if they offered massive wages).

I suspect that you're probably right, I wonder what he's on at Villa, I'd imagine the 40-50k mark on his new deal.

And I for one would bite ManU's hand off for Hernandez, but he turned us down last season - don't see that changing after last night...

I agree.

It still might... remember that when we bid, we were everyone's favourite to get relegated and a club in turmoil. Now we are hailed as having a fantastic manager and an amazing story of trying to break the big boys up. I also don't think Madrid will want him back next season.

You never know.

I think it would be a very good move for Hernandez too, so if he has any sense he might change his mind.
Then in a couple of years he'll be scoring against Real Madrid in the CL semi final :emoticon-0103-cool:
