In this time of adversity, in fact when ever we are challenged by an adversity of any kind the UNITED KINGDOM in some form always has a bright star to unite the feelings of our nation. This pandemic has brought forward a hero from the past to be a champion of now.

    C A P T . T O M .
On 30th April T O M will be 100 I wish Tom all the best and a few more years with us so he may see the fruits of his labour.

I would think it has not gone amiss by her Maj that his efforts should not be unrewarded ….

I'm not going to knock the young of today, half or more of the people battling away on the front line of the NHS and our social systems, fighting to save our lives and futures are under 45, they are in there everyday, 24/7 standing up against this dreadful virus and all the hurt and despair it brings .

All generations have miscreants, low lives and little ****s that bring disgrace but the huge majority of all generations, of all times, of all social status and backgrounds have been good, patriotic, loyal, hardworking people.

Thankyou Captain Tom you are a credit to all of our nations.

he walks around the house 10 times = 1.6 miles [ think the guardian newspaper wrongly stated a lap of his house was 1.6 miles ] that is no mean feat.. if he manages it in less 2 hours he is doing very well. Although 20 years or so younger and doing 2.2 to 2.6 miles a day carrying 9 -11kgs it takes me close to an hour. It is also not the most comfortable way to walk either, he cant move his arms and has to push the aid and the ground isn't exactly smooth either … herculean effort ….

Thanks for saying what I'd have said.

What Captain Tom has done is ****ing incredible. Let's not use it as a stick to needlessly bash another generation. It's not long ago that Caroline Flack took her own life due to poor mental health, and now Sam Smith is being vilified online for being a bit annoyed at quarantine.

All that matters, is what an absolute top man Captain Tom is.

I work with some young people who in care settings have met the current challenge with a similar Tom Moore like mindset. Unfortunately some have not and booked themselves off sick/claimed to need to go into isolation as soon as their employer shared guidelines - People do need to display the Tom Moore v the Sam Smith. It does matter.

'So what'. Don't you work in social care?! It's enough to drive people to suicide, and quite famously, it has done recently.

Hence why I said, I get the gesture, but we can quite rightly big Captain Tom up without putting someone else down.

I’ve edited it now, so let’s move on from this argument please.
Me I personally don’t like him so I thought it was funny. Some like him but not me. To me I believe in nature and nature says male or female. If you’re not happy being one then by all means switch to the other but gender neutral really grinds my gears.

    Yes.

    Exactly so what.

My next shift will last over three days sleeping at a service where none of the individuals it supports have left the service in a month for even minutes.

The reality is I work with people going through real hardships. A care assistant can earn less than nine pound an hour and won't have the safety if they are principled of staying way from work.

Social media does not drive people to suicide their underlining health and mental difficulties do. Its a reason society should not focus on characters like Sam Smith. His mindset is damaging. Reframing what is a monumental crisis by focussing on positivity and adopting the attitude of we v I will save lives.

Yeah fair enough, I don't really have an opinion on that anyways myself so wasn't taking issue with that at all. Just think Captain Tom is a top lad :emoticon-0148-yes:

    EDIT: Never mind.

Social media can only acerbate existing issues, or affect what is latent. That can be good or bad.

Focussing on somebody like Sam Smith has little benefit. His negativity could/will affect others negatively. Negative mindsets have very frequent negative consequences.

Focussing on the positive - positive reflective process is a normal strategy for dealing with mental difficulties. Adopting a positive mindset In wider society will have benefit in response to a society defining crisis.
