When you take time to start/ make a thread are you hoping that people comment?

Do you go back and look at your thread every so often during the day to see if you have sparked a decent debate?

Or do you not care what you are posting as you are writing it more like a statement to which your getting your point or opinion across and don't pay attention to others comments unless you don't agree?

For those who only comment on threads and never start them is this because you worry about what others may think? or do you just try to slate others efforts? ( just asking )

When I post a new thread the first thing in my mind is to try and create something that will make people respond if I see my thread has achieved a certain number of comments I feel my effort has been rewarded if it gets little response I think what a bunch of ****ers draw a blue line and move on <laugh>

So why do you start a thread and what do you hope to achieve or gain from it?

I don't live in Southampton anymore so reading these forums helps me connect to what's going on.

I'm not bothered what people think as everyone has a slightly different opinion and I try and respect the angle they are coming from.

I would start a thread if I had a thought that would spark interesting discussion about SFC. I would not write one for the sake of it or to be popular.

The forum also gives me a break from the missus nagging about the damn washing up or telling me how much money of mine she's going to spend on a mulberry bag! Happy days.

Sounds like a fair and probable answer when it comes to a woman!

I think most of the main thread makers are probably in bed now perhaps this was more of a morning post what with it being a school night n all :)

    No that's me!

But apart from that do you have an opinion about the questions I asked?

Everyone posts or makes threads for a reason that's why were all on here reading or responding to crap like this.

I rarely ever make threads, but if I do I suppose it doesn't really matter whether I got a lot of replies. Doesn't make much difference to me.

That's fair Dan but if I have taken time to create a thread I want responses otherwise I wouldn't make any and there wouldn't be much point in coming on here.

I always try and ask questions as well which generally makes people respond rather than a statement.

I too live away from the Southampton area and visit this site to hear people's thoughts on all things Saints, the sort of opinions one might pick up in a Southampton pub! The only time I would start a thread would be to canvass views on a particular subject or point.

It's funny you mention the Southampton and pub talk, Living in Reading I miss that also all the football debate in pubs round here is all premiership that won't change unless Reading get promoted and they become the glory hunters first team again!

Only if I actually have something original and interesting to say or something particularly hilarious which, due to my high standards, is not often. And yes, I do keep an eye on it.

As you know I post quite frequently and in the main I post to amuse and inform but also to get people to see matters in a different way. A lot depends on what is happening at the club or in football in general.

I quite often use a story format as each of us lives within a context that influences our lives and how we think and what we do.

I am quite often surprised at the number of times a particular thread is viewed and wonder whether that includes repeat visits or is it the number of individual visits.

I do enjoy reading other peoples posts and enjoy reading the responses.

The only thing people post on here that does not interest me is that football manager game otherwise we have a great gang of lads with just one rather silly exception and you can probaly guess who that is.

Because of my age and the time I went to school the only thing that bugs me is poor grammar and lousy spelling.

Having said that lets hope everybody keeps up the good work.

PS We shouldn't forget the contribution the mods make to keeping this site in line otherwise it could end up like General Chat and then none of us would bother with this site at all.

Most threads we see are genuine threads, from people raising, or asking or just offering, opinions for discussion. We do see threads that appear to be people trying to get themselves noticed. Just as we see threads from people that just want to be contentious.
In the main I think people write the threads to seek an opinion and do go back to it from time to time to look and answer/challenge replies.
What would be the point of just writing a thread and not referring back to it now and again, or if you reply, not looking for a response?

I do come back from time to time during the day to see what has been written in response to my and other peoples threads for when you start a thread it is like a conversation in that you listen and then you reply after you have given things a little thought. I suppose I come on to the site about four times a day usually first thing and last thing in the day and perhaps two or three times in the day depending on what is going on.
