Now things seem a bit more settled, what's your opinion of the Championship as a matchday experience? When we were there, I said I felt it was the best league to be in for a fan that likes to go to grounds to support their team. A fair few times people said I was only saying it because we weren't in the top flight. Well, here we are (okay, only for now) and I still believe that the Championship is the best league for a fan of a football club as opposed to a pure football fan. I can accept you need to aspire to be the best, and I can accept you need the money to survive never mind grow, but losing in this league is almost accepted, especially against the big clubs, but it should hurt shouldn't it? We just got given a lesson by Southampton, and I found myself shrugging and saying, fair play, we were beaten by the better side...ok, if Palace beat us I'll be concerned... Am I looking at it wrong?
Fair viewpoint. The incredible thing about the Chamoinship is that anybody can beat anybody. The prize at the end of the day is 'the promised land' - the best league in the world, the Premiership. The challenge of trying to get there is often more exciting than actually being there and getting regular thumpings. Wish Hull well this season, and hope we join you next season, because again, the falling short of the promised land is gutting.
With the new BT champions league deal, the gap between the top 4/6 teams and everybody else will only get bigger... Im sick of it , this was once the sport of the people now its big business..and as well all know big business fooks everything it touches... I can't see myself continuing spending money on a flawed dream much longer... the greedy fookers have nearly destroyed the beautiful game...
You are not looking at it wrong - your goals this season is survival so you are expecting to get beaten more often then not while last season it was promotion so were expecting to win every game. Plus also you have the whole name change and other such crap to think about so I bet your season is going to seem a lot crapper then last season.
re the Championship I'd echo what has been said by our posters above already ... the refreshing thing this season for me re the Prem is that, right now, I have no idea who is going to win it; whereas for many years it has been not much more than a two horse race .... love what Southampton are doing - as I loved what Swansea did last season ... and I guess they are now the model for teams in the Championship - get up there consolidate and compete (whilst actually playing decent football).
Fair points, I think this year, the Prem is more open than it has been, but I don't think it'll take much for that to settle out again. Mind you, the claim that the prem's predictable doesn't seem to follow through to my Sky Super 6 predictions.
Only if you dissect it. Your actual club fan would probably prefer to be in the Championship, as many that only turn up if your in the prem are football fans, not club fans. Club chairmen would prefer to be in the top flight please log in to view this image Championship is still the most unpredictable league, you could put the names of all the teams on the floor and throw a dart in the air to decide who would win the league.
