Chelsea look to build their new stadium inside Battersea Power Station: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15874177.stm I can't see it happening, but it would be a hell of a stadium.
Always baffled me that noones bought and used that site for something, talk about prime location and possibilities. Now lets wait for Hearn to jump on it and claim Leyton Orient have spiritual links to the area...
Well there used to be a theme park the other side of the tracks so perhaps they're trying to bring back recreation to people in Battersea. I'm all for it if it reduces my Wandsworth Council Tax, not so much if it ended up increasing it. I know after yesterday that I am bad at reading things but have I missed the bit where it says it would be inside the power station rather than replace it?
Surprised they're only looking at 55,000, thought they'd want to rival the very top. Size aside, like OLM says, it'd still be one hell of a stadium.
Only thing I think about when I see Battersea Power Station is the cover of the Pink Floyd album, Animals. What a great setting for a stadium though, well besides the KC obviously...
It's not actually the cover, it was one of inner sleeve images, this was the front cover... please log in to view this image
Quality film that was on TV only a few days ago. Id forgotten how many future awesome English actors were in it til I rewatched it. It's like a who's who of English talent over the last 20 years.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/nov/24/chelsea-stadium-battersea-power-station According to the Guardian, it will be to the south-east of the power station. Disappointing.
