Well another morning starts with PM's from long time posters saying how they hate PM'ing me but are pig sick of all this.

Please read the,EVERY TIME I POST THREAD

I'm not taking sides but would ask if you could have a calm read of this thread and tell me f you are proud, abuse, childish posts and even two regular Sunderland posters wanting to fight.

Its a football forum, debate, fun, laugh, enjoyment, cant see a lot of any of that in this thread and the few posts trying to calm things are simple ignored.

A serious question, what do I do?

Ignore it and see good posters leave one by one until all we have left are those who want to abuse, wont include me BTW.

Ban all the Newcastle fans and make it like SMB, Sunderland only, again wont include me.

Ban the Sunderland fans who can only abuse, a backward step IMO.

I'm not trying to be funny in any way, just lost on what to do because I rely on you lot helping me out by showing some restraint.

Honestly, if you really want a board where this is acceptable I need to know because I dont so can you tell me without any more abuse?

You did right deleting that thread, I should have known better than post it, sadly I assumed people would know the boundries but obviously they don't.

I'm just going to be careful on what I post like that and start blocking people, that's easy, its these silly, silly name calling abusive posts I don't get, what happened to self moderating, ignore buttons and walking away.

We draw the line at our judgement, on this one I simply don't like any of the options, just would like people to help us out.

Syd I don't post regularly as I work shifts and have a young family. I do read a lot of the posts when I can but I must admit I am becoming disillusioned with the amount of abuse and now threats of violence. As you say we want craic/banter discussion on the forum and people just need to grow up and have respect for other peoples views. I am seriously thinking about leaving not606 as I don't really enjoy it at the moment.

For what it's worth I think you do a cracking job but I wouldn't want to do it

As I've said all along. Go to how the original 606 was. We all moaned about how the mods on BBC 606 were too strict, but were they ? I think they did a good job,(not saying your doing a bad job btw).
Ban all swearing,(there's really no need for it).
As soon as someone gets abusive - remove the thread.
As soon as as thread turns into a slanging match for whatever reason - remove it.
Simple as.

I'm leaving this up all day to give everyone the chance to have their say, we have been through it before but IMO the mods on here need to know what everyone wants because it would be wrong to just sit back and watch people leave.

Every comment and opinion is valuable and equal.

God Syd. I wouldn't do your "job" for all the tea in China.
I realise Billy is in a bad place at the moment and I'm sure he'll be regretting what he said last night. That said he crossed the line over there.
If you have to resort to threatening violence you've lost the argument and all credability. If he keeps that sort of **** up there will be few posters left on here soon.

People need to stop taking themselves and this board so seriously, it's a forum, people will swear and insult and wind each other up, are there no more pressing concerns than 'WUMS'?

I'm certainly no prude, but I do feel that allowing swearing often gives an easy option to abuse rather than respond thoughtfully..
Just my opinion, and I'm sure others might see it differently..

We all want to talk about Sunderland. The club we all love. We enjoy banter with our friends up the road.
We don't like self-obessed numpties who try to wind everyone up.
I agree with with a ban on swearing and suggest a harder line with any user who steps over the line - suspension and then finally a ban. Yellow card/red card
After all this is a football forum not a crutch to help someone through their sad day.
Keep the faith. I agree Syd has a thankless task but he's doing a grand job.

Why ban swearing? there is a Swear theme and a none swear theme (just wish there was a dark coloured theme) so you just see **** instead of the word.

This has been happening for months, Someone starts a thread, a mag posts on it, then world war 3 breaks out, a mag posts a thread, world war 3 breaks out, its boring and tedius.

Please don't despair syd, I'd go even more senile if I didn't have the not606 to keep me interested and amused, so I'm prepared to disregard the more stupid aggressive and abusive blogs and move on to the more balanced ones.

This is supposed to be a football forum. There's far too much talk of people's personal lives. I have sympathy with people's problems, but don't keep bringing them up on here

I've read through that post "every time...", didn't read it all first time, cos to me it just went a bit childish.
Some folk are able to get rid of frustrations by threatening, or being abusive, to others in cyberspace. Some people swear because they can't express themselves too well, for some it is just a way of life.
Yes I can see that these sort of threats and abuse can turn people off Not606, but for the majority, we can ignore the stuff we're not happy with. If it helps people get rid of their tension and aggression, then I'm all for it.
I joined Not606 after reading some of your and other regulars posts, thought they were funny and i was able to get more info on my team, a good bit of banter. I have enjoyed some of the mags posts on our board, but have to say, that there are those who will hurl abuse simply because it is a mag posting, then it turns into a slagging match. Those I just shut down and go onto the next post.
There are those who would argue with a snowman, those who "hate" everyone and everything. It might seem a bit smug to "not rise to the bait", but then where would the debate be?
TBH Syd, you and the Mods are between a rock and a hard place ( been waiting ages to say that), I wouldn't want to do it. But whatever you guys decide it will be pretty much OK with me

A forum like this is surely for expressing our views on everything to do with Sunderland AFC and our competitors where appropriate, not a platform for trading personal abuse and threats.
Since most of us moved here, largely due to Sid plugging the forum, there have been some real ‘ding dong’ battles over different opinions, whether Mags, BiBs and BoBs, Bent, mostly very entertaining, though sometimes very silly and mildly abusive.
Once a post degenerates to nothing else but the exchanging of personal abuse, even threatening violence, it’s simply gone too far, if such an argument started in a pub, after macho posturing, punches would probably be thrown.
For my part, once an interesting post degenerates to an argument between 2 or 3 mindless idiots, I simply stop reading. Unless the posts are being watched by moderators 24/7 I can’t see that they can be stopped whilst in progress, but maybe they should be closed / locked or deleted, whatever you can do, once they are spotted.

Well my point is, Why should you stop reading, why should the mods close them.

They start out well, get quite a few replies and are of interest, then they just descend into a slanging match, but why shouldnt you reply with the OP, why just leave and ignore it. (I know why you do it, but you shouldnt have to, if it didnt descend into a slanging match to start with).

I'm quite good to you compared to most posters, Syd. You just don't show me the respect I deserve <cry>
