look at the table. what good is it winning against the likes of Chelsea if we **** up against every single team outside of the top 6? Im ****ing annoyed because it's finally dawned on me that we will have to wait yet another year for a crack at CL. Spurs are in a different division compared to us and only the naive would suggest otherwise.
It's frustrating mate but it's Kenny's first full season and we are starting to look like Liverpool again. There were few problems tonight and with 11 men we were close winning the game.
I know we're playing better. Our squad is better etc etc but at the end of the day look where we are, still in ****ing 7th as per usual! God Im sick of this ****. Why do I let myself believe the hype each year that we will make fourth.
I think the biggest thing for me is as Red said..... it really is a broken record and that is ****ing gut wrenching believing that we can do it and we just keep slipping. Most years where we are is OK, but this year Arsenal are flying, Newcastle were, Tottenham are, City are, United always win, and Chelsea are still there even with their problems. It is a much more difficult challenge to get fourth and these results in the end are what can sink you. It is just frustrating to play well enough to win game after game and come away with very little. Except when we play the top 6 ( bar Tottenham so far).
Of course Kenny Kop King, we can..... but results like this have become the norm over the years and that, for me at least, is the hardest thing to digest. I think winning the Carling will help as it will ensure Euro footy and we can set a path on 4th and really push hard this upcoming spring and hopefully hit the stride at the right time.
Lot's to play for. I'm as disappointed as you about this result but we created chances and the game was decided by the ref, who seemed to take the easy options all night long. We've also lost the heart of our midfield in Lucas.
we played well...we're going in the right direction in terms of manager, playing staff and tactics but still plenty of hard work to do. i like the way we're knocking the ball around and soon someones gonna get a pasting!
But let's face it, we had lost at least two points before the sending off. It was like running into a brick wall. We were shooting left right and centre of goal but to no avail. We have a great squad but lacking someone who can just put his foot through the ****ing ball in the 6 yard box and finish for us consistently!
Disagree - We would of made changes and could easily of won..... Although do agree that we need a natural finisher.
I caught some of the game tonight with 11 men I think you would have maybe won that game.. Spurs? Mabye we I'm a Stoke fan can do you a favour on Sunday We'll be full of confidence after that win v Everton yesterday. Hope you get that 4th spot there's still plenty of games left
C'mon lads. 4th was a big ask even if we won this game. Like I said before, we should lower our expectations and be grateful that we are at least playing better football and we are up against a tough bunch of teams in the top 6.
No we shouldn't! 4th is still very much on the cards. There is nobody above us who we cannot beat - that's not the problem. It's game's like last night that cause the problem. On this occasion we were by far the better side, the most likely to score, etc. etc. Until Spearing's red card we were odds on to score whereas they were not. Most tight games are won and lost in the last 20 minutes and this was no different. Their defence would have cracked. Now I accept that the other results make our defeat look worse but we are far away from being anywhere near out of it. So Pepe made a mistake - it happens so let's just get on with it. Spearing's red should be rescinded on appeal (there's enough video evidence that he fairly won the ball) . We go on. United were Rubbish, Newcastle's run is rapidly losing steam, Spurs are due for a failure and Arsenal aren't exactly setting the world alight. So all in all 4th is still attainable. It's far far far from being the end of the world!
I'm not saying it is out of the question, but people need to realise that not getting top 4 isn't the end of the world considering the teams around us.
I think the January window is crucial for Liverpool if we wish to push for 4th. I feel that we are two players short in attack that we need if we are going to start scoring more goals. First of which is a striker. Andy Carroll is simply not good enough yet. He has nothing about his game (at the moment) which leads me to believe he can contribute to the teams style of play. He did absolutely nothing last night, or the whole season for that matter. Treat him any normal youngster we have on our books and nuture. He has time. Secondly - a right winger. We need some pace in attack and Kuyt is not getting an younger whilst Henderson is a natural right mid (although he played extremely well last night). We need another dimension to our attack. If we can add to our attack and ultimately score goals, then we will win games. Simples.
