I'm not. He really looked at Barca like his legs had gone and didn't look very good. Don't get me wrong, for a cheating b'stard he was a special player, but not sure he has much to contribute any more? Last I saw he moved as well as that statue of him outside the Library. Anyone think they will benefit from this move?
Rumour has it that they are also looking at Martin Keown, Charlie George and Frank McLintock on short term loan spells (the latter two would be very short, about 10 minutes each!).
last 10 minutes impact sub, maybe. I think Wenger is sending out the wrong signals with this signing vs AVB being given a 150 million cheque for new faces
It's a strange signing isn't it. He's one of their best ever players but at 34 and been in America for the last 18months you have to wonder if he is up to the standard of the PL anymore especially in the weakest Arsenal squad they have had since Wenger took charge.
It's sort of like our re-signing of Klinsmann a few years back. He wasn't cutting it at Sampdoria, was lacking match fitness on arrival, but scored the goals we needed to keep Christian Gross in a job...for a short while. The difference being that Klinsmann was a natural finisher so didn't rely on pace apart from in short bursts, Henry on the other hand relies on his pace for a lot of his game, and he's lost a few yards of it - yet, conversely, he'll probably do better than most of the duff forwards Wenger has signed in recent years (i.e. Chamakh, Gervinho, Can't Be Arsedhavin)
It makes some vague sense, as they're losing Gervinho to the African Cup of Nations for a while, so he'll basically be cover for that absence. He'll probably shift some merchandise and might even get one or two Gooners off their seats. If he really puts in some work over the short period that he's there, then he might have some impact, I guess. Not convinced.
I fear for the Gooners, I really do. All of this smacks of "King Kenny" disease. Legends returning to clubs generally does not work, whether as player or manager. God knows we have had some harsh examples of that truth. The real worry for Gooners has got to be that Henry will be a complete flop, and a member of the side that finishes outside the top 4 (or even 5) this season, and that would be a major black-mark on his name emblazoned, as it is, in gold in the books of the so-called Invincibles. It would be like Sherringham coming back to play for us after he had found his true glory at United. Oh, wait.... !
It's a two month loan deal to cover Gervinho and Chamackh at the ACON. So it's a contingency at best. I think we've had his best years, but he's still got enough in him to do a job. Some of the derisory comments on this thread tell me that Spurs fans still see him as a threat Would be nice to Henry to get winner against you lot at the Emirates
Even I would applaud that. Yet, I do still believe that there is more chance that Red Rum will win next year's Grand National.
Silly bet, with both Chamakh and Gervinho off to the ACON Henry will be used as a sub for Van Persie when the game is deemed to be wrapped up.
One could ask whether he's been keeping his hand in sufficiently in Yankland? If so, he might turn out to be quite handy, if he can handle the pressure.
Jordan loan extended Saw this headline on the OS and wondered if Arsenal had taken Joe on loan as well
