Shame to see a local lad progress his career elsewhere, but 19.25 million is a ridiculous sum of money for him. Wish the boy well.
Liverpool fan in peace. Clearly, you lot will be gutted that you have lost a bright, English prospect who was born and bred in Sunderland. On the other hand, i'm delighted that we've brought in a bright, English player who I believe will grow into an excellent player. We've got the player we wanted and you hae got a tidy sum of money to re-invest into your team. Good luck for next season. You've got a crackin support and seem like a club on the up.
lets get real here, we have sold a player who has played 70 first team games and has yet to have a "stand out" game . Well done Niall Quinn for getting a huge fee for a very average player.
Thanks for the astute comments Chris, hope he lives up to your expectations because he sometimes flattered to deceive - but don't get me wrong he is a cracking prospect
The wrong message has been sent out to all and sundrie. He was going nowhere unless it was £20m. Anyone else remember?
725k short of 20m I think is a fantastic deal. I hope he does well at Anfield but I just can't see it. Not enough goals or assists, is too lightweight but he does cover a lot of ground.
Must confess I struggle with all these comments about selling our bright player, i it the same one everyone was saying drop him Buce a few short weeks ago. I hope he does well but come on, 20 mil is a fantastic deal.
good luck to the lad but the fee is unreal. Some people need to get a grip on here like, 20m for a player who has scored 4 goals in 2 seasons, rarely puts a tackle in and can't put a half decent cross in from dead ball situations, ****ing hell i'm delighted with the deal. I'm sure he'll improve but for 20m if i was Quinn i'd have sold him as well
Hope Bruce gets in good young proven replacements - not the past-their-best f*cking has-beens we are being linked with. The scousers have paid £10m too much, but agree this has sent out the wrong signal. FFS - I thought ES was a f*cking billionaire!!!! - My F*cking Ar$e. I think we need a new owner who wants to spend - ES seems like a bit of a tight WAD. Not a Happy Bart - Lol
Dont get me wrong - I dont think he's worth £20m, but you draw a line in the sand and (as the saying means) stand by it. We have rolled over. Someone please tell me. Is it £16m? £18M ? £19.25M? What? Is it at £2m per year like Kenwynne? Is it up to a certain amount like B£NT? IT ALL STINKS, MAN!
It's not the money I'll take issue with, it's just the dissapointment of not seeing a young local lad hit his peak with us. To get an adequate replacement we need to either A) spend big bucks on a big proven name or B) Get lucky with a cheap alternative. My biggest concern is will the big bucks signings come up here if the wages aren't huge? Don't want to go the way of Portsmouth but get the feeling the cash is gonna have to be waved to get people up north. Still keeping the faith tho!
the wrong signal? give 10 million pound more than a players is worth and we will sell, come off it - it proves we have players that other clubs covet, what was our transfer record amount when selling a player before Bent? It is a sign we are moving in the right direction by at least having such players is it not. If a top 5 club comes in for a player and makes an indecent offer then I'm afraid we have little option other than to accept, to suggest anything else is letting your heart rule your head.
we hav been selling star players since alf common and charlie buchan. time for this to stop. get me 5 minutes with them!
