Right, I had a massive row with some footie fans last night (including a selection of Liverpool fans) after I said Henderson was decent. I've never heard such a tirade about a player before from people, some going as far as to say he is the worst they have seen in a Liverpool shirt (I had to remind those people of players like Harry Kewell) is it just me that thinks that Henderson is decent? How would you say he compared to the following players.... Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere, Frimpong, Oscar, Mclean, Cleverly, Wellbeck, Barkley, Rodwell, Nick Powell...
He is a good young player, and if we play him in the middle will be a strong player for us for years to come. If however we keep playing him on the wing.. The bloke has no hope!
Technically he's a good player, he works hard and has a good attitude, imo he is not ready to start for us but is a player that will come good and be a valuable player in the near future.
has the skills, just needs to be able to translate them onto the field. With the being said, Rodgers and Hendo himself need to find his position and make him excel at it.
Henderson is a good young player with the potential to grow into a very good player. He reminds me of Lucas when he first joined, he was a back-up player (much like Hendo now) who wasn't performing to a standard that we know he can, he has bags of energy (Lucas too) and will never give up (again, Lucas too). Some of the fans are on his back (Lucas) but he is knuckling down in the background, putting effort in and working hard to put things right (Lucas again). He has been played out of position (Lucas) and he is younger than people realise (exactly like Lucas). Give the lad time and when he does play put him in the middle, the lad will come good
Henderson is very good for his age. Really good technique, good movement, great energy and work ethic, strong, good tackler. Should be start in Lucas's role whilst Lucas is out. He will be a big part of England future, playing most likely as a DM, with Wilshere and ether Cleverly or Shelvey ahead of him. I can even see Henderson as a captain or vice captain one day. The fans who say he is rubbish are plastic fans who only care about famous names. Henderson often gets over looked as the role he plays is a lot more subtle than other players roles, like Suarez, Allen and Sterling. But the role Henderson plays in the team is vitally important. I question the football knowledge o the people you argued with.
I think they both know that position, and that is the position he plays in Europa matches. Defensive midfield, or deep holding player. He plays there every week, just not in the league. I have been very impressed with him in that position. In the League he has other players ahead of him. So instead Rodgers uses his versatility and plays him as a versatile utility man, filling in on jobs when needed. He does well enough there to justify his selection.
He's a massive potential talent and is challenging for inclusion in our first team already. He captained England at under 21 level, so the England coaches rate him very highly. Like Lucas/Allen/Shelvey IMO he'll be at the heart of our team in 2/3 years time. In short, IMHO, you're right Bozz. I doubt the people you were debating know much about football. Worst player ever seen at Liverpool? That's an insane statement, bordering on certifiable! Did they exclude Downing from that statement? Poulsen? Konchesky? And those are only relatively recent inclusions. These people sound like veritable know-nothings, Bozz, and, if you are friends (or acquaintances) of them, you have my deepest sympathies.
All of the above. Just wondering if all the lights are on. I may be completely wrong & obviously having never conversed with the guy can't say for sure but is he a bit dim? Of course it might not matter plenty of decent thick players but (he's young after all) he just gives me the impression that his coaches Shout at him "Hendo the other way run the other way this half...."
He could be an excellent Joe Allen style Controlling Midfielder IF, and its a big if, he can overcome his mentality issues. He struggles to deal with the pressure, to be confident and to believe he can can come thru all this and succeed. He can't deal mentally with the criticism he gets from LFC and other fans and needs to learn to just not let it affect him like other players. If he can do this he will be successful, if he can't he won't make it at a big club like us who have high expectations and will end up at a Villa or similar.
Hendo is fine, tell the 'fans' to stop listening to the ****e that is talk sport, start watching him play and making them come up with their own opinion.
I get the impression the Lucas lessons have been learned in some quarters, though amongst the OP's associates the same old myths and media cliches bound. Fior me Henderson is more dynamic than Joe Allen and has more potential. Allen's safety first approach won't get him noticed for making mistakes but he won't be on many highlight reels, either.
I get the feeling if BR brought Messi into the squad, you'd call it a mistake. Or at least a mweh moment. As Liverpool fans we can hope both are a great success; because you know, that would benefit Liverpool FC as opposed to proving some sad & bitter point that everyone else is getting bored of and.... as has been suggested; is starting to sound more & more at odds with: oh I don't know, the word "supporter".
With the greatest respect to the lad, I do not rate him at all as an attacking/playmaking midfielder, which is what he is supposed to be
He's a very good player and those that mock how much we paid for him seem to forget the extra amount added onto English players. It wasn't just Henderson that was over-priced, all English players are over-priced. If Henderson was German, I reckon we wouldn't have paid more than £10 million for him.
