Henderson 'over the moon' at new deal
    Football

Jordan Henderson says he is "over the moon" to sign a new contract with Liverpool, which will take him up until the end of the 2019-20 season.

"It's brilliant news for me to commit my future to this football club - I really feel that it's a good time for us to look forward to the future, with the squad we've got, the manager, the size of the club and the fans we've got," he said.

"I really think, over the next few years, we can challenge and start winning trophies."

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has signed a new five-year contract, the club have announced.

The 24-year-old England international joined the Reds from Sunderland in 2011 for around £20m.

With Steven Gerrard leaving at the end of the season for Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, Henderson is among the favourites for the captaincy.

Vice-captain Henderson, whose current contract expires at the end of next season, has scored seven times in 55 games for club and country this campaign.

That's how its done Sterling you greedy little ****er.<ok>

Never in doubt imo, he was always going to sign.

Puts pressure in Sterling now, we'll soon see if he wants to stay or not.

It's not about the money Tobes, it's for the love of the game and the club he plays for. <whistle>

Glad he signed but £100k a week? It's ridiculous.

I know wages, prices, fees are all inflated these days but this is madness.

I know he's loyal and hardworking but quality should dictate how much players get paid. His quality is limited.

Its only fair that the captain is among the highest earners due to the extra responsibility.

  9. Hendo is underrated by most IMO. His suspension was what cost us the title last year, not Gerrard's slip although that obviously didn't help.

I agree Jimmy, maybe they're trying to justify what Sterling gets(if he signs and if he gets more)

I'd be ****ing happy with 100k a year let alone a week ffs

can't blame players for the wages tho. They are grabbing their share of the massive pot, and they are the main actors after all.

It's crazy that he's captain in the first place.

It's sad how we're in a position where he is earning that much and deemed as one our best players.

It certainly didn't help, that's for sure. But we lost the league when we drew to Chelsea - that wasn't down to Hendo not playing, it was down to naive tactics IMO.

If I was Raheem and saw Hendo earning £100k, then I'd be asking for double!

Don't get me wrong, I think he can be a valuable squad player (well, he already is).

I think he will get better but only to a certain level - I think he has a limited ceiling of potential, and he goes missing quite often. Compare that to someone like Can who can visibly see taking charge and responsibility.

  18. Did you mean lost to Chelsea or drew to Palace?

Beating Palace wouldn't have won us the league as we could only equal Man city's points and they had a superior goal difference.

Yeah but Can gets it wrong at times too. IMO if we put a quality player in there with Henderson then he will improve no end, a good partnership will make all the difference. Too often this season he's been left to do it all and just hasn't coped but that really isn't his fault.

Before Jordan Henderson can gain more recognition he needs to be a complete footballer. It's not beyond
him because he is still young.
