Henderson, is his birthplace a major factor to some SAFC fans?

Alright chaps since the rumours about Henderson going to Liverpool (and then leaving) there has been quite a bit of talk about we shouldn't sell him, he's a local lad supported Sunderland and that sort of thing but are the people in that camp overating the lad because of his birthplace?

My mate just said to me then...

cant get over how basic henderson is .. 20mil my word use are howling, not fast, isnt box to box, not really a tough tackler, no real passing ability, not a good touch, doesnt score goals.. im just a bit bemused as to what he actually does.

everyone is entitled to there opinion but I personally think we have got a great deal out of it, as I said above are people using his birthplace and that he supported us as an excuse?

IMO I aint into the local thing, if it takes to get were we want by having aload of foreign players in our team then so be it, if I had a choice I wouldn't be bothered my favourite players in our squad at the minute are Gyan and Sess and they aint English.

I would say he IS box to box and has a good touch.

I would also say that Kenny Daglish knows a canny bit more about football than we do!

...and I would agree with that. If he was played in the middle again, it's no wonder he had a bad game. We all know he's a right winger, not a central midfield player.

Kenny D does know more than us but why couldnt brucie or stu pearce do what 40000 fans know. Get him on the wing.

As a local lad I would have been pleased for him to shine tonight.

If KD watched that ****e tonight he may be doubting his own knowledge. :p
Absolutely dreadful all round mind and lucky to steal a draw.
Henderson was the most atrocious though.
Welbeck put in a hell of a shift but did very little till his offside goal.
The muppet on the post for Spains goal didn't do his job very cleverly. :p

I'm sorry but i disagree about JH. He is a young lad still learning his trade in many respects and has played in a team that has struggled for much of his time. This year, he was asked to do too much due to the injury problems and would have benefited from a rest. Unfortunately that didn't happen and I think he tired mentally not physically.

Personally, I think he is a very fit, box to box player who has a good end product as a wide right player not a winger, a bit like a James Milner. He will definitely get better and although he didn't impress against Spain, to be fair who did? He is the modern footballer. An athlete with a lot of raw ability, who could well be a very big player in years to come.

Lets hope we use the money we got for him well and I wish the lad nothing but success in his future.

Those of you who cannot see Hendersons talent I despair, just because he dosn't beat 3 players on a dribble or score 20 goals a seaon.....howay the lad is 20 and can play football, he has enough pace, he definately is a box to box player. he can make a pass and he can make a goalscoring pass. Is he the finished article, no he's 20 ffs! 5 years time I think the boy will be running games. 20 million cheap as chips, that's 2 mil a year if he plays for 10 years. I don't know what some Sunderland fans expect. Now I'm not knocking Sess' but I'd rather have Henderson. At the moment I'm worried about the direction we are going. I'm also worried that we wouldn't pay Bent extra or perhaps Henderson, doesn't seem to me that we tried to keep him. I don't think Henderson pushed to go. Perhaps we need to get real and realise that those in charge of our club are making a lot of money.

Tony. This is the reason we will never get two thirds of the players Bruce and Quinn claim we're after. They both know they will probably not be able to meet their personal terms but it keeps our morale up.

We lost out on Adam Johnson because of it. Despite what Bent claimed it was the main reason he went. Same goes for the mags with Carrol.
I have no doubt it was probably a major influence in Hendersons move and will probably be the same if the Gyan rumours turn out to be true.

Transfer fees are only the start of a very money driven process.
