MANCHESTER UNITED BATTLING LIVERPOOL FOR JORDAN HENDERSON ABOVE: Manchester United are ready to offer Sunderland a cash-plus-players package for Jordan Henderson Manchester United are ready to offer Sunderland a cash-plus-players package for Jordan Henderson 5th June 2011 By Paul Hetherington MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to offer Sunderland boss Steve Bruce a cash-plus-players package to rival Liverpool for talented youngster Jordan Henderson. Bruce is already set to make a move for Manchester United defender Wes Brown, 31, and midfielder Darron Gibson, 23, this summer. And if United manager Sir Alex Ferguson also allows him to have Danny Welbeck back on loan, that could put the champions in pole position for England midfielder Henderson, 20. Bruce doesnât want to lose Henderson, who is also a target for Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini. But an offer or package worth £20million could persuade the reluctant Black Cats to do business. Fergie is planning three signings this summer â *Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea, 20, Aston Villaâs attacking talent Ashley Young, 25, along with a midfielder. In the frame for the midfield role are Henderson, Inter Milanâs Wesley Sneijder, 26, and Spursâ Luka Modric, 25, although Tottenham insist the Croatia playmaker is staying. The other young midfielder who could come into the frame is Evertonâs Jack Rodwell, 20, and once again, Welbeck, 20, could be involved in any deal by moving to Goodison either in exchange or, more likely, on loan. Liverpool are chasing hard for Henderson and boss Kenny Dalglish also thinks he will win the £15m battle for Blackburn centre-back Phil Jones, who recently signed a new deal to stay with Rovers. Dalglish is also said to be ready to test Sunderland with a £10m offer for skipper Lee Cattermole. The defensive midfielder, 23, joined the Black Cats from Wigan for £6m in 2009 but the Kop boss is a keen admirer of the player.
seems like all the big clubs want him, wonder why when so many safc supporters knock him. try not to sell him, but build a team to accomodate him. or else we'll be going backwards.
My arguement entirely, we sell our best, we become a feeder club, at least I`ve got 1966 and 1973, but up and coming supporters will have nowt to look forward to. and nothing they have witnessed, to help them through the bad times. And as Sunderland supporters, we have more bad times than good.
Bill said something in a similar thread, hate to see Henderson go, but saying that if we get Brown and Gibson plus Danny on a permanent and not a loan it might be something to think about.
Gibson is **** and brown is past it, if we want to move forward has to be Wellbeck, Evans berbatov etc. Bruces job could depend on these deals
When it comes down to their injury histories, Wes Brown will be no better than John Mensah. If Steve Bruce wants Brown he may as well have kept Mensah, who is a far better defender than Wes Brown. I've only seen Gibson a few times and he looked a decent player to me, but do we really need another central midfield player? Possibly, if the rumours about Catts and Hendo turn out to be true.
In no way should we be even thinking of letting Henderson go in my opinion. Why have an academy to produce young players only to sell them? This would serve no benefit to our club.If Bruce is interested in Brown and Gibson (remember its only paper rumours) I think he should be offering cash only.
If Henderson goes - Bent already gone - possiblt Catts too. We will be a selling club and it would take something special to entice me to travel the 150+ miles to the SOL next season - to say that I would be pissed off would be a massive understatement. We should build the team around the likes of Jordan - who would die for the shirt - who could possibly replace him. We should also never have sold KJ17 IMHO. Lol Bart
Totally agree, if we sell Jordan then the stigma of being a selling club, one which simply develops players and rejuvinates careers will be hard to shift. The only way we will truly progress in this current climate is to develop quality youth players who want to play for the club and are willing to stay despite interest from bigger clubs.
Anyone who could hit the ball past the first man? Who could pass the ball forward? Could tackle a player?
Spot on. If Bruce had to sell, he should insist on Wellbeck as a permanent and a wad of cash. If he signs the other two, I wont bother going next season.
glad you don't want much, wasn't so long ago certain folks were saying they would rather have wellbeck than henderson
think that a canny reasonable offer myself Brucie said he won't do any business unless its 20m or above Evans is worth about 6-7m IMO + the 10m + Welbeck for another season think thats a canny deal
I'm still laughing at the original report. Fergie is after 3 midfielders, wesley snieder, Luca Modric or Jordan Henderson....If they all cost the same amount, who would you go for? Gibson is okay, but for me Brown is shot and I've said this before he's been happy to be a bench warmer for over 10 years, happy to take a pay cheque for 5-10 games a season. No hunger at all for me. Wouldn't have him. Evans on the other hand....With the emrgence of Smalling will he really get that many chances at Man U?
Man Utd are putting Henderson in the same bracket as Luka Modric and Wesley Sneijder? Sorry but I don't get that at all. Nevermind the fact that a £20mill price tag for Henderson could actually make him more expensive than Sneijder and Modric. Where's the sense?
Never any sense pre season mate, but we fill our time in catching up on the cricket, and pushing rumours round, although, some rumours do get us all a bit twitchy, as they actually sound true, just wish some of these players would come out and say its all bollocks/ or all true. but never going to happen as long as a player has an agent. all about the money, never the fan.
10m + Welbeck on a perm deal would suit me fine. We really need Welbeck next season, I would take a loan but a permanent deal would be much better especially if we have to let Henderson go. Everyone is talking about Catts and Henderson but for me when fit I think Colback and Melyer could be a much better midfield duo. I would have Evans back in a second too.
