Club partners Asante Kotoko have crowned an excellent season with their 22nd Ghanaian Premier League title.

Maxwell Konadu's side claimed their first league championship win since 2007-08 following a 0-0 home draw against Berekum Arsenal.

The stalemate left the Porcupines 15 points clear of rivals Hearts of Oak with four games left to play.

Kotoko have won 16, drawn nine and lost just two of their 27 games, scoring 36 goals and conceding a league-best 12.

The club, who play at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, signed a partnership agreement with Sunderland last July which has seen the Black Cats provide coaching and business expertise.

Coach Konadu, who has also been named as an assistant with the Ghanaian national team, had a two-week stay on Wearside earlier in the season and worked closely with Sunderland's coaching staff.

Kotoko have not suffered a single defeat in all competitions since Konadu's return from England.

The 39-year-old former Ghanaian international won the title at his first attempt after taking over last summer.

A Kotoko spokesman told safc.com: "It is a testament of the confidence that Maxwell brought back from his trip to Sunderland that his players have taken to his training and tactics with renewed vigour.

"They are achieving success that was not anticipated within such a short period since joining us at the beginning of the season."

Wonder if they have any decent players, this has got to be one of the reason why we have this partnership.
