    right all you DIYers

I was going to fit a tap outside the kitchen wall for hose pipe purposes

I have seen those 'self tap kits and was going to just use one of those

I have since heard that it can be bad for your water if it self taps into the drinking water tap.

what do you know regarding this?

    or any suggestions

    much appreciated

Get a plumber, will cost about £60, and get done properly.

Double Check Valve is required under current by-laws.

Sometimes depends on the water authority but you are correct, however this only applies to the incoming mains, domestic connections after the DCV rarely require valves<ok>

This is probably the most serious comment I have ever made on this forum on a Friday afternoon ffs <doh>

Yes, I meant if you are installing a bib tap, you need to fit a DCV.

    eddie is correct

the kit you purchased from screwfix with a built in non return valve is fine<ok> You should also have a stop valve so you can isolate the supply inside the building to prevent burst pipes outside in the cold weather.

Just remember to trun the supply off once it starts to freeze.

I didn't last year and the cellar got flooded after 18 hours of water gushing out of the external pipe.

    True story.
