Was talking to a mate last night who is desperate to find work. He used to be a social worker till he was made redundant and he's been looking for work ever since, reckons he's got two months until his money runs out and he'll be homeless. He's looking for any type of job going, had plenty of interviews and is even volunteering in a charity shop. He's on the books of all the job agencies in London but only occasionally gets a days work whereas 20 years ago when I was doing that I'd get offered a days work every day. Any ideas where he should look next? Any area of the UK where there are jobs a plenty? Edit: He's 52, reckons he doesn't get a look in because of his age.
Best of luck to him. I hope someone can help out in whatever way. And fair play to you too for putting it out there
Just thought it's worth asking on here as there are plenty of readers and he'll do anything. Must be some casual work out there?
I don't know what advice to offer other than being on the books of an agency was good enough a few years ago, but now I'd suggest he phones them all every single day. Nothing encourages action better than being a complete pain in the hole.
he could find call center work in a flash mate, contact a company called NL recruitment, they are based all over London, his age is not and issue in that line of work and they have a **** load of jobs in london all the time.
Only sensible thing you have ever said. If he was made redundant by the Govt surely he got a good whack of money, and he agreed to it?
No qualifications, no driving licence, was a social worker for 10 years plus and before that an anarchist punk squatter, great record collection.
Surely there were qualifications required to be a Social Worker. Does that not require at least a degree level education
Correct but he's been looking for work for a long time plus he's in some weird houseshare where he can't claim housing benefit for some strange reason. All a bit of a ****up but now it's crisis point.
quite honestly he can call them tomorrow and be in work before Friday mate, and most call centers pay weekly as far as I know so could have some wedge in less than 2weeks, good luck to him anyways too many people ****ing scrounging.
I don't know what it's like in London, but in Manchester there are always call centre jobs available. I don't think you need any qualifications usually.
