I have been gone over 30 years and I am Americanized out. I need advice on a cheap place to stay for a few weeks and where might be a good place to look for a starter job to find my feet. It's not going to be easy I know as I am 56 years old and it's a big move but I have done it before so I will be fine.
Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated

Also I can get to see Hull City again every week which will be a big bonus :)

From memory on the old Footymad forum, aren't you in something to do with TV/electronics? I wouldn't have thought you'd have too much difficulty getting yourself up and running again, especially since they keep extending the retirement age for us poor buggers. You've got plenty of working years left in you still.

    Welcome back!

Hi I don't know if Hull and East Yorkshire Bondholders would be any help to you, might be worth a phone call. Good luck anyway.

I don't know what you budget is, but B&B's are not usually too expensive, here is a link to a few which might help.

John, what the hell do you want a job for at your age. Change your religion (you know to which one), marry a non-English speaking girl and England will throw everything at you FOR FREE!

    Interesting question work wise.

If it was me, I think I'd be looking at working for myself. You won't make millions, but I reckon you can get by with a bit of buying and selling at car boots and the like. A van and a bit of house clearance work should soon build up the stock.

The other one that could be worth a try are the bus companies, they're often looking at drivers to train up and seem to prefer people with more life experience.

Move to beautiful Filey John....its like going back in time....slow pace of life....peaceful....lovely beach....friendly....and there's a coach to all home games

Nice cheap bungalows in a great area around the £100,000 mark

Also a few nice flats to rent.

Might be worth thinking about a portering job. A lot of the porters at HRI are on the older side.

They don't make many films up in Hull, John. Chipotle has recently started opening stores over here so maybe your Popeyes idea is a goer.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am quite serious by the way, oh yeah and that Filey idea sounds good too

    john.
my cuz is moving back to us after another unsucessful atempt at car boots etc.if you have been away so long you should be up for a pension in us in a couple of years.
as for getting work in hull i gave up on that when i was 38 and have left forever.
can you not make a life change in usa?
you will get a house of some sort off the hcc my cuz gets one everytime he gets over and gets his rent payed etc.i would imagine your bank accounts would be checked so leave any $$$$$ you have in usa.
one thing is for sure......life on the dole in hull is dire.if you have been used to a decent standard of living.
knuckle down in uas old son and visit hull more often.
p.s. my mate moved to san diago and is now a short order cook [what ever that may be] and is very happy.and he gets to watch english footy costs him $25 entry to the pub but what the hell.
    whatever you do good luck.
    and take care.

    Filey....

Near enough for day trips to Whitby, Scarborough , Bridlington , Hull , York

    The scenic north Yorkshire railway

Pickering steam fair ( its huge )

    Pickering 1940s weekend

    Whitby Goth festivals.

Close to the North Yorkshire moors and the dales.

    Fishing of Filey Brigg

Iv not seen one junkie in this place.

    Very peacefully

    A quite way of life.

    Beautiful beach

    You'd love it here John

Not good for those wanting a fast action packed way of life.

There's about 3 bungalows Mr me for sale around the £100,000 mark

Also they rent out at £350 to £550 a week in summer if need be.

For local travel you don't even need to get car out .

Good luck what ever you do John.
