Evening folks. A very close family friend of my family has been terribly ill for over a year now. He's an ex Fulham player called Barry Mealand. He was a young full back in the side during the 60's. He joined the club in 1961 and played until 1968 (I think). He broke his leg whilst playing at Highbury, unfortunately, and the club let him go shortly afterwards. The reason I'm writing this is purely to ask for some advice. His heart condition has rendered him helpless and a virus has attacked his body, he can't speak and is reliant on nursing staff to help him. Don't get me started about the NHS though. I wanted to try and ask the club if they have any resources available from the era he played to try and stimulate his re-hab. Not that he will be able to get any better unfortunately. Barry is an amazing man. He battled cancer in the 80's and also another bout 3 years ago. The last doses of chemo and radiation actually knocked his immune system for 6 and thus rendered him available to the virus that has attached his heart. Is there anything you can suggest or point me in the right direction for? Cheers. Apologies for the rubbish grammar!
Might be worth contacting the PFA, Craving http://www.thepfa.com/thepfa/contact If I remember correctly Barry took over from Jim Langley before he got injured. Found this one with him, Tony Macedo and George Cohen unfortunately not being able to stop Chelsea from scoring please log in to view this image Very difficult time but best wishes to him.
