Reading between the lines, and what Sod has said we are going to have players with us next season that did not perform last season, and yes they will get their big fat pay packets. These players which took us down are still under contract and earning championship wages,it seems they are going to screw us again next season with their contracts and wages.

If this is the case then we could be in for a bumpy ride again.

Obviously these under performers are going to restrict Sods intake of fresh blood, which hopefully would have taken us back to the championship.
SoD it seems would like many he inherited of the books, will it happen we can only hope.

It seems these under performers would struggle to get anything like the wages they have been earning at city.

Sadly this could, and probably will hinder us next season.

It's unfortunately inevitable, unless other clubs come along and want to take these players off our hands, which is somewhat unlikely.

The only answer is not to play them and let their contracts run down and out if they arent prepared to make the effort.

Problem is we still have to pay them and that is stopping us bringing in replacements.

On the rumour board it said that Bournemouth were interested in Kilkenny but his wage demands were too high.

Granted but kids cost next to nowt and will be keen to show what they can do. Let Fontaine, Kilkenny and co rot I say.....

BTW - After all of the promotion and relegation changes were made the administrators of Not606 still have Bradford in L2 on the main menu !!!

The problem is not playing them,it is paying them their big fat wages.
This hinders us on the 60% turnover cap on wages.
Hence hinders us regards new players arriving.
This i believe is why players are not arriving,SoD needs to get players of the wage bill,Sadly these players are sitting tight and do not seem to want to go.

And Lansdown because he is involved with the club can not pay off their contracts as that would still be considered part of our wage bill however if someone not connected with the club paid off their contracts that would not at least that is how I read the regulations.

We've needed to "cut the wage bill" for the best part of three years. The real problem is that turnover is piss poor. This is what the board should be addressing, rather than tightening the purse strings.

I'm not necessarily saying that I don't buy this excuse, but after looking at our squad list I think we look frightfully bare in some parts of the pitch, and if we cannot afford to bring in new players then we should buy these players out of their contracts. Also, why are the board still struggling to earn from this club?

And that's because the football has been lousy over the last few seasons
Ditto the management or the team
Ditto the overall ownership and stewardship of the club
    Ditto the commercial dept
Ditto most of the key decisions made which have been wrong
Ditto virtually everything connected with the club in fact.

The saying goes you reap what you sow and I'm afraid it's reality time for us right now as it's all coming home to roost

Ultimately, the football played will only go so far towards bringing in cash to the club. We have a owner who made hundreds of millions of savings on his tax last season, yet we can't afford a few players at £100-500k a pop to get promoted to the Championship.

SOD is the last good manager we're going to have for a while at this level. The fact that yet again there are excuses stopping us from giving him the money he so desperately needs to rebuild the squad makes me sick.

If we're not promoted this season then I think it would be best for the club is Lansdown and co were to step down from the club. I'd rather have League 2 football and the club in control of the fans than what I feel this season will become.

I posted a thread earlier where I was trying to highlight the problem that we are having getting in new players while the overpaid non-performers of last year are still on the books. This thread has highlighted the same issue that will not go away and it seems very regrettable that we are not prepared to spend any more money on trying to address this problem.

Look at the last 2 years when we have been so inactive during the transfer windows that it made me wonder where the real problem lies and is it deeper rooted than any of us care to believe. I still believe that with the right manager and the spending of some money we could still have stayed up and yet we were seemingly allowed to fail, using the FFP and the losses as the excuse. Something is seriously wrong with the approach of our club to the problems that they have encountered and I wonder why we continue to make the same mistakes and here we are waiting for the proposed rebirth of Bristol City FC going through the same old rubbish that we have witnessed before. Excuses are the source of failure, and total honesty and acceptance of your failings are the route to future success and I just am not seeing that credo developing at Ashton Gate any time soon.

**** me sideways, here we go again....!!!

Fact:- yes, we may or may not be stuck with some players that most of us (me included) would rather move on HOWEVER it seems that everyone on here has forgotten that they will be taking a significant cut in wages so they have shot themselves in the foot as well and will be KEEN to move on...

Fact:- which part of "its the rules" do people not get on here. FFP restricts our spending, FULL ****ING STOP - Its not an excuse, its a fact of life yet I see thread after thread saying we should be doing this and that and why haven't we bought 50 players yet and frankly, its doing my head in now...

We can all bang on about the mistakes and failure of the past but whilst we need to learn from them, what is the point, we are here now - what we don't need to do is revisit and micro analyse every ****ing detail to the Nth degree or we will never move on and will be stuck in this negative loop for ever.

    - we have a new(ish) manager who is looking to change things
    - we will be playing a different brand of football next season
    - we will have a decent number of new players
    - our youngsters will get a chance to show us what they can do

There is no great transfer activity going on for ANYONE out there, this will all start proper 1st July INCLUDING, hopefully some of ours departing (including some I would rather keep) but if we are going to have a thread like this every day, its going to be a bloody long summer...

No thanks m8 I have a girlfriend for that.
And I have said we will have to wait for players to leave before many more signings can or will be made as there are up to 9 players who could leave the club which will mean a lot of inbound players as well, I also said it will be an interesting time for us after July the first, and that is my hope. So I don't disagree with most of your points but with nothing being said from the club everything comes down to rumour like S O'D has said there will be 2 keepers on trial in preseason it would have helped if the names were mentioned as the rumour mill has gone mental with the number of keepers that we are supposedly signing or trialing.

The weird thing is we hear all of these rumours about Bristol City and players coming in but apart from Albert and possibly Daviies not hardly any of our so called assets are being mentioned leaving, tells a story...

To be fair wiz. Heaton, Skuse and Stead would of been our "assets" and they all have new clubs (except for stead but he will have soon no doubt) On top of the Albert and Davies it would be 5 players that left for a better club. That's almost half of the first team. Baldock has been linked with a few clubs as well as Cunningham. Clubs want our players but like SOD has said the buyers will have to be prepared to pay their wages.

Baldock as a young striker, Nyatanga as a free agent and Cunningham who did impress last year, have also been in quite a few rumours but Pearson 0, Elliott 0, Fontaine 1, Foster 1 and Kilkenny 2 rather says that no one really fancies them as they did not in most cases overly impress last year.
