Today’s game was dedicated to the childhood cancer awareness campaign supporting the Bradley Lowery Foundation. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect today but was pleasantly surprised as we played well and deserved to take a point from the goalless draw. After Sheffield, football took a back seat as emotions took over once again. As part of the Swan Song Project in Leeds, my family and I had recorded a song in memory of my late husband, and they’d sent this over to me on Wednesday so have blubbed ever since. With the names of fans who have died over the last year being on the screen at Elland Road today, including my husbands and some others who I knew, and a minute’s applause that hit me too. It also made my granddaughter cry when I told her this was happening on the way to the game. Just as I was waiting for the team to come out, I missed myself on the screen so didn’t manage to get a photo of that one. We’d gone straight to Elland Road today as we were later getting there but it was lovely to catch up with some of our Irish fans in the Peacock and some of our Scottish fans in the ground. It was great to see our miracle young lad Ed who fell out of the tree at our celebrations at the end of last season. Although still using crutches, he is still here and doing amazing which is the main thing.

With Ramazani going on loan to Valencia CF and Bamford’s contract being mutually terminated, the latter contributed to my emotions as another of Bielsa’s boys leaves the club. Bielsa was the person who helped bring the love of football back into following Leeds and I will be forever grateful for the special times he brought here.

Team: Perri, Struijk (captain), Bogle, Rodon, Gudmundsson, Stach, James, Gnonto, Longstaff, Nmecha, Gruev.

Subs: Aaronson for James (59), Harrison for Gnonto (59), Calvert-Lewin for Nmecha (70), Justin (80).

Subs not used: Darlow, Okafor, Bijol, Piroe, Bornauw.

    Leeds drew the game 0-0.

Attendance: 36,727, with approx. 2,900 Newcastle fans.

    Referee: Peter Bankes.

    Booked: Gnonto.

The game set off at a fast pace and what I call blood and thunder as tackles went flying in. Gudmundsson made a great block as we then went on the attack with a great ball out to Gnonto on the wing. His cross just missed Nmecha’s outstretched leg and ended up in their keeper’s arms. Nmecha was constantly fouled by an octopus and not given much protection when he kept getting hauled to the ground. Gnonto got into space again and caused problems with his goal bound shot deflected wide for a corner. With lots of end-to-end football, Newcastle brought a good save out of Perri but there weren’t really any clear-cut chances as we went in at the break on equal terms. We’d had one unexplained stoppage in the first half, when the linesman disappeared down the tunnel meaning we had an enforced break. By the time he came back, it had taken the sting out of the game for a while.

The second half saw Leeds get into a good position, but Bogle’s shot from the end of the box went way over the crossbar. Perri was then called into action to push a long-range curving shot around his post. A Newcastle cross into the box nearly caught us out as it deflected off Gnonto, bounced as Struijk missed it when he flung himself at the ball, and Perri pushed it away at the last minute. A great run down the wing by Harrison saw him chip a fantastic ball over the Newcastle defence into the path of Calvert-Lewin who saw his touch gratefully picked up by their keeper. The flag went up for offside so it wouldn’t have counted anyway but it was a good move. We kept up the pressure into the dying minutes as Calvert-Lewin saw the keeper stick his foot out to kick his low shot away from goal. Some great footwork by Aaronson, then Bogle saw the cross picked out of the air by the keeper in another good move.

As the whistle blew with the points shared, although we didn’t score, at least we looked a much better unit as a team than we had done in the last two games. Apart from having to regroup once we made our subs, the game was very even, and we can be proud of that performance and gives us something to build on after the international break. See you at Fulham, LUFC – Marching on Together!

Could be a season defining performance and result. Well done to the fans in attendance, sounded great. A watery defeat and there would have been the usual calls for immediate change, sack Farke etc. all three promoted teams doing well and the powers that be must be ****ting themselves that some of their protected babies might actually be relegated this time around

I would love to see someone like man u relegated but they get the luck of the draw with decisions so it is unlikely.
