Cardiff v Leeds United 21st September 2024 at the Cardiff City Stadium please log in to view this image I was looking forward to wearing my new jumper and beret given to me by the Art of Football after my interview during the week, but sadly had to cancel my trip after my husband Phillip or Captain as he is known to other Leeds fans, suffered another mini stroke yesterday. After posting my reel on social media this morning, I cannot thank the Leeds United family enough for all their love and support sent to my family. Although we do not know how much time Phillip has left, it could be sudden or happen over time, but it is essential we keep him safe. The photos were sent to me by my daughter Danielle who was at the game but aren't in any specific order. Team: Meslier, Ampadu, Rodon, Firpo, Bogle, Gruev, Joseph, Gnonto, Ramazani, Struijk, Aaronson. Subs: Byram for Bogle (84), Piroe for Ramazani (84), Tanaka for Joseph (90), Schmidt for Gnonto (90), Rothwell for Gruev (90). Subs not used: Darlow, Bamford, Crew, Debayo. Leeds won the game 2-0 with Ramazani (30) and Piroe (87) scoring the goals. Attendance: 23,207, 3,219 Leeds fans. Referee: John Smith Booked: Bogle, Gruev. Sent off: Bagan (Cardiff). Before the game kicked off, there was a minute’s applause for Sol Bamba who had died recently and another on the 14th minute. Sol played for both Leeds and Cardiff and was given a fitting tribute by both sets of fans/clubs. It’s always different when watching highlights than being at a game in person as that’s how I make my judgements on the games. Cardiff ended up with 10 men after Gnonto was fouled at the edge of the box and it looked as if we had been given advantage. The same lad continued chasing Gnonto as he brought him down again. As play was brought back and a free kick awarded to Leeds, the young lad saw a red card. Ramazani was put through the middle with a great piece of skill from Joseph as his speed took him past the defender and scored his first goal for Leeds. His back flip celebration was impressive too. The second half saw Bogle brought down and Leeds awarded a penalty, but the keeper having a fine game saved Struijk’s shot from the spot with his feet. Near the end of normal time, Piroe was sent down the wing with a pass from Aaronson and when he carried on into the penalty area, hit a shot from the near post straight into the net. Although that gave Leeds some breathing space, Cardiff nearly pulled a goal back with a one-on-one ball with Meslier but thankfully he made a great stop to prevent it. Thanks for getting the win for me Leeds, however hard it seemed to watch the game from some of our fans’ points of view. Three points and a clean sheet count for a lot. Thoughts and best wishes to Captain, yourself and your entire family Heidi, I can only imagine how difficult a time it must be for you all.
So sorry to hear about Phillip. We are all there for you. Needless to say, if you ever need anything, just ask!
Tough to find something relevant to say to you at such a difficult time Heidi. So tough watching a loved one battling for life. Just hope the thoughts of your extended family ie the Leeds fanbase is of some small bit of help. God bless you all
Hi Heidi My mum suffered a severe stroke out of the blue on 4th July. She finally came out of hospital last Friday and, although her progress has been fantastic, it is still life changing so I can totally relate to what you and Captain are going through and just wish you both the best possible outcome. Take care Marcos
Hi Marcos I had no idea you were going through a rough time as well, I hope your mum is okay and that she continues to improve. Sadly I think the majority of this forum are of the same age group, which means a lot of age related problems creeping in for family, friends and indeed ourselves
Thank you, appreciated mate and you are quite right on all fronts. Youngest was accused of an assault last August that he flatly denied (he genuinely is the nicest lad and simply not like that). It took 9 months to clear his name through DNA and Fingerprints (after the Police took unusable prints first time and lost his DNA sample) and I had a bit of a heart issue. Funny in it's own way, I was in Papworth having a stent fitted and mum was next door in Addenbrookes on the stroke ward with no idea I was there, still haven't told her because she wasn't / isn't well enough to deal with it. Anyway, onwards and upwards, I am back playing golf with no problem (other than my swing!!), youngest is cleared and passed his A Levels despite everything and mum is better than I thought I would ever see after the state she was in. I would say, it does all put the football in a bit of perspective
Definitely mate and you certainly have had your share of misfortune for the year, glad it is starting to sort itself out though, it certainly sounds more stressful than watching Leeds on a bad day
This thread kind of sums up why moaning about football, missed chances etc. is really so trivial. Best wishes to you Heidi and Marcos.
Been a **** year here too unfortunately. Had to admit my dad to nursing home in March due to onset of dementia. He’s now at later stage, doesn’t know any of us so visiting him every second day is tough going. He’s alive but living about 40 years ago. Life can be so cruel and football is so poor it isn’t even a. Distraction
Thank you pal I actually really appreciate that I try to keep personal away from here but Heidi’s post kind of resonated.
You may but likely to be in the minority Seriously, hope all goes well, this really adds perspective.
Having met you and considering you a Leeds United pal, I sort of knew lots of this and is why I wish you wouldn’t let the football upset you so much, genuinely
Taking a very different approach to the footie this season Marcos. It’s not really enjoyable for the most part so didn’t deserve the amount Of time or money I gave it. Bringing grandson over in December as it’d been booked a long time but don’t expect I’ll be travelling again much if I’m being honest
Sorry to hear. After spending 8 hours at an and e today as the palliative nurse wanted to check we weren’t missing something that could be treated with my husband, nothing has changed. Could only do this route as both oncology and palliative wouldn’t see him until at ct head scan was done. All the changes are due to end of life although we don’t know when that will be but I suppose at least we know.
