Sitting on my scooter was met with squeals as I sat in a pool of water in just the time it took the drivers to get it off the coach for me. Bad driving conditions with lots of standing water on the M62, but at least I got home safely. Apart from what constitutes a lack of a football game for 90 minutes, being amongst our fans is what makes the day. Also with such an early start, sleeping all the way there and back has made the journey manageable and able to forget what happened on the pitch. Team: Meslier, Cooper, Ayling, Koch, Bamford, McKennie, Roca, Kristensen, Harrison, Gnonto, Summerville. Subs: Wöber for Cooper (injured 35), Rodrigo for Bamford (71), Forshaw for McKennie (71). Subs not used: Robles, Greenwood, Aaronson, Firpo, Struijk, Rutter. Leeds lost the game 4-1 with Bamford scoring the Leeds goal (32). Attendance: 10,434, 1,282 Leeds fans. Referee: Chris Kavanagh. Booked: None for Leeds. Leeds started off on the attack and were given a penalty for handball which was overruled by VAR and awarded a free kick instead where Roca saw his shot saved by the keeper. After blocks at both ends Bamford saw his shot saved by the keeper before things changed dramatically as Bournemouth scored two goals within four minutes to put us on the backfoot, looking down and out. When Leeds pulled a goal back after great work from Harrison to Gnonto, we saw a fantastic cross from the youngster to Bamford at the far side of the box to head the ball into the net. Cooper then went off injured and was replaced by Wöber. It still felt we were in with a chance of getting back into the game as we went off at half time. No changes were made for the second half, but things didn’t go the way I wanted as Bournemouth scored a third goal which in reality put the game out of our reach even though Roca had another shot saved by their keeper. Eventually we made a sub and Forshaw managed to put more into the game in the little time he was on the pitch as Leeds looked livelier. Koch brought a save out of their keeper with a header, but it was Bournemouth who got a fourth goal to send Leeds to another defeat and send our goal difference into more deficit. Although VAR did look at two of the Bournemouth goals, they were still allowed. The club lost the fans as chants of Orta out, sack the board, Bielsa and You’re not fit to wear the shirt rang out from the terraces. I just sat there in stunned silence as I cannot see any way out of avoiding relegation. There were a few players who still clapped the fans despite the outpouring of toxicity, but others just stood there staring at the fans. What else can I say? Whatever has been going on behind the scenes has reflected badly on the team and we need a complete reset from top to bottom next season. To me, ever since we started with the split ownership we have gone backwards and undone everything that we were building which in itself is the hardest thing to deal with. With our game at Man City next week there is plenty of talk about them scoring the highest number of goals against us. No doubt I will still go into the game with hope, but how long that lasts, we will have to wait to find out. See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together! please log in to view this image
It’s hard that’s for sure. Let’s see what happens tomorrow as there are a lot of rumours around. We’ll see what is true then.
