He scored 13 goals for us last season. ( Most of them from the penalty spot.) Neither IMO ,or enough assists. That's not enough for a Championship winning team. Never mind the Premiership. Here are five prolific strikers around Europe that are gettable within our ridiculous budget restraints that I reckon, under the trusty helm of ' Sir Neil of Warnock ' would groom & florish... Alexander Gerndt- Helsingborg Darvyndas Sernas - Widzew Lodz Denni Avdic - if Elsborg Derek Riodan - Hibernian Kevin Davies - Bolton Wanderers
Hmmm..... Not sure I'd want Davis. Never really rated him. Not too sure why, I just never liked him!!
Me neither, but I thought I would put him in there as better than Helguson, and a bit more prem expeareance than HH. And under Warnock... The others have a lot of potential though.
I think people are too harsh on HH and I think most of that attitude is based on his performance in the 2009-2010 season where he had no focus at all! He was great this season. Being a good penalty taker is a plus! But he scored a few good goals through open play (and possibly the best goal of the season). But, most importantly for me, he was a great engine for the team in the final third and consistently brought the ball down and distributed it to other attacking players. There were a good handful of matches where he was man of the match for me. I'm not saying he will set the premiership alight, because he won't. But I do think he could still be useful.
I think you're right, awjm: he had a good season for us, so much better than the previous one. I agree with all your plus points but the fact remains that we need a reliable Premiership goal scorer and HH misses far too many. How many do you remember him heading over the bar? What's his conversion rate? About one in four? There's no way he would get 20 goals in the Premisership and we need a striker with a realistic chance of doing exactly that. Like you, I value him as a squad player but I do not think he should be our first choice striker.
