BBC Radio Leeds report that the Whites are understood to have paid £500,000 to activate a release clause Heckingbottom's new contract at Barnsley - who he leaves just one point above the relegation zone. The move comes exactly two years to the day since Lee Johnson left the Barnsley job to take over at Bristol City and Heckingbottom took charge. UNLIKE Cloughie decided to abandon a sinking ship, and move down country a bit! I do not think moves like this are "spur of the moment" and must have been worked at for a week at least! Is it a new trend ... take a young individual train him for a while then "sell on to manage somewhere else" Barnsley have always said the loss of 1 person would make little difference to their structure? we will see, interesting to see how they fill the gap! A few good managers still out there ...jobless! or might be shortly! CONTE, STAM ......tic
Following Heckingbottom to Leeds will be his backroom team of of first-team coach Jamie Clapham, head of sports science Nathan Winder and first-team performance analyst Alex Bailey. Well so much for fort Barnsley! not just lost the manager but the backroom as well!
