Waiting for Q.P.R. to be relegated over the last couple of months has been like watching an elderly relative slowly pass away, watching helplessly as each sign of life is slowly extinguished, unrealistic hopes for a recovery only serving to prolong the suffering. The pain starts to fade the moment the inevitable is accepted and, regrettably, relief is the overriding emotion at the final passing; the unwelcome pangs of guilt that accompany this pass but the memories last forever. The memories that we will take out of this season are not pleasant. We have endured a seemingly endless cast of overpaid and underperforming parasites gorging themselves on Tony Fernandesâ money....... read on http://rollercoasterranger.wordpress.com/2013/05/13/heartache-and-hoops/
http://rollercoasterranger.wordpress.com/2013/05/13/heartache-and-hoops/ Not pretty reading I am afraid But everyword true....sad day
Hey Roller....I beat you to putting up a thread up about your own blog. Perhaps I should go into advertising. Great but sad article
Nice one Roller. Loved the steward cordon and our defensive coaches analogy. The whole piece has summed up the last two seasons.
Nice one Roller. I think we moved beyond mourning into high farce on Sunday, in a way it was cathartic. I don't have to pretend that this bunch will turn it round in the next game, kid myself into believing that they are actually good players, or that they will ever return the faith that the we R's have placed in them. Thankfully they will all be gone one day (hopefully soon in many cases) whilst we will still be here.
Great read Roller. I loved the bit at the end about '82 players, brought back some great memories, first trip to Wembley & seeing the R's win on a regular basis. Happy days!
Thanks Beth, and I'm glad you "enjoyed" it. Stan and I saw that your girls had given the massed ranks of stewards the slip, what were they doing? Helping people over the advertising boards? It was my intention to end the blog on an upbeat note, but I just didn't see anything positive to talk about. I possibly could have followed Stan's "high farce" motif, but the more I think about it, the more angry I get.
Just posting to bump Roll writing up. Just read his piece on Tommy Smith.. in addition to which I loved that when he scored (for Watford?) at Anfield a huge chant of 'There's only 2 Tommy Smiths' went up.
As I was chatting to Judo and Sussex after the game, my girls tapped me and said '' Dad why's everyone going on the pitch? '' ''They do that at the end of the season darlings, you can go on there if you want.'' I said. With that, their eyes lit up and before I knew it they were over the hoardings and on the pitch. I thought they would just hang around the loft goalmouth, but when I looked up they were running towards the Newcastle fans. I excused myself and had to head on there and get after them. They loved it, and got a real buzz from going on there and enjoyed taunting the United fans. ( Worryingly. )
