I have just finished watching recorded programmes, match of the day and football league show which got me thinking of how many headed goals were scored this last weekend in all divisions. This is an area I feel we massively lack in. In times of old we had Gerrard, Turner, Zayatte, Elliott, ***an and others who weighed in with some much needed headed goals. Who do we have now who can score regular headed goals? I feel we are no threat at corners, set piece free kicks or crosses into the box !!! Your thoughts?
You'd think Hobbs would be decent at it, given his size and strength, but he doesn't get forward much, does he? And Mclean has a great vertical leap, but he can't head it towards worth a damn for the most part. It would be nice to have that threat from corners. Maybe it's going to have to be Chester with more regularity, or possibly Garcia if he gets into the team when he's healthy again.
Didn't Chester have a bullet header saved off the line on Saturday? I dont think Cairney is the guy for Corners, can't get it over first man!
Think we should revert to Barca style corners cos getting it in the box doesn't work why not play it between Koren and Brady and work it into the box and create something from there
I remember 1 header ***an go i think it was against West Brom if finished 2-2 a brilliant cross from Mendy (First and Last) and ***an just headed it over the keeper. Hey THETIGERSHULL i thought chester would be the one with a couple of goals from the back he seems to win everything coming the other way
***an scored a very important goal. In fact, I reckon it works out at the most important goal in us staying up in the PL. And that was against Bolton if I'm not mistaken. Shame the rest of the time that 'striker' didn't really bother.
Definitely agree with you here THETIGERSHULL, everyone naturally blames the attack when you're not scoring but it's as plain as day to see that it's only them who are scoring. What we really lack is some goals from set pieces! (And central midfield)
I wouldnt say ***an didnt try.. he was the one player i thought did try when he played, just didnt have the end product.
That's a funny list of players that scored headed goals for us, Gerrard, Turner and Elliott I can see, you could add Garcia to that list too, but Zayatte and ***an? I can only remember one headed goal by Zayatte(at least only one that went in at the right end) and I don't remember ***an being much cop in the air either. We are sadly lacking in headed goals, or any goals from set pieces for that matter, in fact, we're just sadly lacking goals.
He's currently plying his trade at Morcambe FC, while also appearing(without any make-up) in the Adams Family Tour at Morecambe Winter Gardens.
Had a decent start to the season as well if I remember correctly. Certainly got a few goals from what I've seen. Think of the children!
Chester scored a great header last season in the home game with TWS but a goal is a goal regardless and i dont care if they go in off someones backside Just as long as it goes in. but of course its an area that needs improvement but not much as City are also tighter than a nuns U know what in defence.
I just had a shufty and he's not the only ex-City player at Morcambe at the moment..... Kevin Ellison - 6 goals in 13 games. Jason Price - 1 goal in 7 games. Phil Jevons - 3 goals in 10 games.
I forgot Price had gone there, joined from Barnet in August didn't he? Jevons must be Morecambe's greatest ever player, surely.
