Lots of discussion on the frankly underwhelming start of Michael Beale as head coach. Multiple threads getting derailed on the topic so here goes my first thread. Personally I’m not in the OUT camp just yet as I said I’d give him until end of February.
I thought Mowbray should have been given a bit more time but they pulled the trigger. Was suprised Beale got the job but was prepared to back him and see what effect he had on the team. Can't say I've been too impressed, last night was terrible. A few Beale out posts on social media are survivable but when the stadium starts to sound like it did last night then he is done for already imo.
I was willing to give him a go based purely on his coaching pedigree but it's like he's doing a speedrun to being sacked. The players just aren't playing for him for whatever reason. It doesn't help that the bloke who coached the kids got more out of this group in a week than he has in a month or that the previous manager was still pretty popular, but he's done nothing to help himself. I'm normally patient with managers but I've seen this play out enough times now to know how it ends. If he goes there's still a season to save. If not we'll be down near the relegation places and back to the toxic crowd days.
BEALE ON SACK CHANTS Michael Beale has reacted to 'sacked in the morning' chants following our defeat against a weakened Hull City side. BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED "I think this young group are finding that difficult, it's the first time I've faced it. I'd ask the fans to get behind them, I get the frustration. They can see the effort of the park from the players and any help they can give them, they have to understand the strength of that... when you're at home and at a club like this you expect to win and we're the same, we're bitterly disappointed.” GET BEHIND THE PLAYERS "I'm only a month into the job. It shows the expectation on managers now. I think the fans have to get behind the players on the park because they're a young group, and I don't think they realise the strength of their support to that young group in there. I'll take what comes my way, I'll take the responsibility of managing this club. It is what it is, if you win games people are happy and if you don't, they're not. For me, the result tonight was harsh on us." MOWBRAY WAS GOOD "It shows that Tony did a good job, that the fans are passionate and liked him. That's gone now, it isn't coming back, he's the manager of a rival club in the Championship now. He's got a lot of well wishers at the club, he's a man that I know from coaching against him and on the circuit, and he's a guy that I like. It is a decision that had nothing to do with me, I came in after that decision.” DOING MY BEST "I'm doing my best with the staff that we've got and this young group to fulfil our ambition. We've got 18 games to go and we're in a better position than we were in this time last year, so I think see the positivity. It's a club that a lot of players want to play for, that a lot of people would like to coach. That should tell you something."
I would prefer we had moved Mogga on at the end of the season, less damage and gives the new bloke a pre-season with the lads. I cannot blame Beale and would give him 10 games before I make my mind up on his performance... but then what? To sack again would surely affect Speakman position. I'm numb after last night's game, and that's not due to the cold, probably have to win the next two to save Beale and Speakman. Not looking good.
If Mowbray had been shyte i think fans would have been more patient, but because he was so harshly sacked and we took a risk upsetting the squad who were all close to him aswell as the fans to then replace him with someone like Beale is an absolute pish take, and im done with trusting this so called plan we have now.
Was really concerned before he come. Now he is here, it's worse than I thought it would be. Every second he is here, we don't progress. Stagnate or even regression is unfolding Infront of us. Playing style and in game management is the worst I have seen since Parky. If he left tonight, I'd sleep better.
Down to 10th as things stand. Will be 11th if Boro score. I reckon we could easily drop to 14th over next couple of games which might make the decision easier for KLD
No point in keeping him. Even if he turns things around (unlikely) I just can't see the bad feeling around him leaving. It's disappointing that it's went this way, I was very disappointed with the appointment but understood it and backed him, even when my gut was telling me otherwise. We are supposedly a data driven club, the games under Beale have produced horrific data. Our pressing numbers are woeful, xG levels are as bad as relegation threatened teams, a lack of shots on target, touches in the final third are significantly down, Rusyn having 11 touches in the game is disgusting and the majority of our shots came AFTER we went behind, that is not good enough. Bite the bullet, sack him, admit an error was made and move on to the next coach. For all the negativity at the moment, it's still a highly attractive job.
We need a cf and a cdm as a minimum that can go straight into the starting 11. Possibly a left back as well. Doesn't matter who the coach is to an extent without them we will struggle
Bad appts can happen in football but the best clubs will realise it quickly n do something about it. The fact fans are chanting for him to go already says it all, once you lose the fans its a long road back n i just dont see him doing it He isnt a leader imo, he might be great on the training field but a lot of his job is man management n thats where he fails for me I dont think hes the only problem with the coaching set up tho, i think whoever comes in nxt has to be allowed to bring in the people they trust. Think keeping dodds n proctor for the sake of contunity is just wrong. We need to be brave as a club to get back to where we should be n i think admitting we made a mistake with Beale should be the start Of course there will be people saying he needs time to implement his ideas however the way we are playing is identical to how rangers played under him A bad start against stoke n the ground will turn toxic. The atmosphere sounded so bad last night n the loudest we were, was when he got boo'd at the time - never a good sign
Lb might be the most important as we dont have any at the minute Those 3 positions are a must for us in this window but theres def more that Beale can do to get a tune out of these players
