He looks a big strong lad, I get the feeling he could be a really good signing.

 

He better turn out to be a gem who really steps up and surprises the world how good he is - because we need some real quality in the centre of the pitch.

Right now, on paper, we've got Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Lucas, Can Coutinho and Lallana (I think Rodgers will play him in the middle) for the midfield positions (assuming we play a diamond). It's alright, but nothing really special and that worries me. We are so reliant on our forward three to create everything and even one of those might well be offski soon.

 

Stevie's replacement? Box to box mid, can take the ball from defence and get it moving and also contribute further up the pitch.
Plenty of years in him too.

I hope he plays a lot, so he gets to develop. Gerrard should be getting rested every now and then, hopefully Rodgers has the guts or Gerrard the humility. I am far more excited about this signing than Lallana, thats for sure.

I must say he's played "enough" to be ready to a lot right in but still have "rough edges" we'll see.

I mean as of today he should be ahead of a suso or wisdom but they now have a good amount of games under their belts. Flanagan now has more than enough to no longer be Molly coddled as a kid

Hopefully he can alternate with Gerrard on particular and not be playing shirt swap with Allen

All in all we'll see as the midfielder we need is not a destructive one but one who demands the ball and links play. That's my hope

 

Sounds like he's trying to make it perfectly clear he's a CM in his interview. Good to have that option to move him to full back in some situations when we might need to though.

Players from German league are normally well suited to cope with the English game so hopefully he adapt. Certainly adds a bit more quality and depth to that centre midfield though. Still would have preferred a more solid DM but doesn't seem Rodgers wants that.
