http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2208080/Eden-Hazard-joined-Tottenham.html If Spurs had held on to third place, they would have got Hazard.
This was the interesting bit though: ‘Nobody was really a fan of Chelsea’s game last season,’. Looks like it wasn't just the jealous rivals that thought so...
Moutinho or Hazard? We had a deal set up for Moutinho and he agreed to sign for us but we couldn't get the complicated third party paperwork done in time. Hazard was always going to need CL football, he had too many big clubs in for him not to expect it.
Realistically Hazard was never going to Spurs given the money involved even if they had got C.L footie. Moutinho at 20 million would have been a steal - shame for you it was left so late!!
Everyone blames Levy when deals stall. We agreed a fee and then Porto wanted extra because of a sell on fee, we agreed that but as he is partly owned by a third party it messed up the deal. Roman is loaded and doesn't care about making or losing cash with Chelsea so can't really compare the two.
Well you all salute him when he gets good deal so it has to work both ways. Fact is, if Modric had been done earlier or you hadn't waited till the last day to get Moutinho, you may have got a top class centre midfielder for sensible money. I suspect bigger clubs may be circling now they know what Porto will accept.
If the papers are to be believed(all we've got to go on really) then we'd have got less for Modric than Porto wanted for Moutinho had we done both deals and then we'd not have been able to afford at least 2 of Dembele, Lloris and Dempsey. The deal with Moutinho was rightly off until Porto can back with a much reduced asking price but unfortunately then it was too late. Buying Tottenham was an investment, not a charity donation from Joe Lewis. As different as it might be to the way your club's run Levy he has to make the money he has to spend, stretch as far as he can. He's bought some duds in the past and made mistakes but you can't really blame him for not jumping at the opportunity to sell a player for less than he can get elsewhere for them or pay more than we can afford for another player. Overall he's improved our side whilst also improving our club's facilities and without risking our club's financial future. It might not be the exciting cash throwing you get at City and Chelsea but it's hard to criticise the results he's brought us overall so far.
That's a fair point. I think he's been good for Spurs and he currently has a good team. I hope you do ok with AVB too but I think it's a real shame that Harry isn't still at the helm. Putting the England debacle to one side I really enjoyed his tenure. Some exciting football was played. I'm yet to be convinced that AVB has exciting in his lexicon.
