Looks like CP is taking a slight diversion from his usual rule of sticking with a winning team. This could be our strongest side I reckon, and a decent result today will doom Hayes + Waggy's starting positions enjoy the game ill be there in spirit
Bold move from Powell, I don't see this as the end for Waggy and Hayes though, both will still be crucial if we are to go up. Now is Green's chance to shine in particular, and establish himself in the side. Commentary is on Radio 5Live by the way
Nothing particularly bold about it. Most team managers attempt to field their strongest side (except for Pardew of course!) and for two weeks we have all known that this is (on paper at least) the strongest XI. I am sure CP has been itching to do this and Wednesday's debacle, with less than stellar performances from Hayes and Waggy, has given him a little more justification to justify it to the team and maybe to himself. ("You've done great, lads, but now you deserve a little rest"). Whether we lose more in understanding acquired over 11 matches of playing together than we gain in individual skills remains to be seen, but the revised team should certainly provide more entertainment for spectators. Just hope Kermorgant doesn't do a "Rooney" again if Tranmere try to kick him off the pitch. He might not get away with it a second time.
I'll be fascinated to see if Kermorgant can strike up the same rapport with BWP as Hayes has got. Green for Wagstaff has been coming for a while but it's Green who's the biggest red card danger IMO, eddie.
Oh dear, charlton sounding flat as since my last post. Wheres the dominance, 2nd half perhaps. 0-1 tranmere.
Just got a text - 'No answer to Showunmi as as usual, why not, it's not as if we've never seen him before. No spark between Kermit and BWP at all'
Just seen the bench. I know that Mambo and Cort are unavailable, but unless Alonso is injured/grossly unfit, what in Heaven's name is Doherty doing there? Ye gods.
Because we may well need CB cover? It would surely be reckless to go into a game without at least one CB on the bench.
That's our 'Get Out Of Jail Free Card' played then. I said this after the game on Wednesday - "...this inept display is the sort of thing that leaves a nasty hangover to clear up before Saturday". Apparently the hangover was worse than I thought - two attempts on target - shockin', juss shockin'. Summarisers are getting worse - Craig Burley was terrible today - virtually unintelligible, and what you could understand was a badly researched load of old rubbish. Sample patter - "Charlton have got to get Wright-Phillips into this game, he doesn't look interested". So what's new? Punch-up at Huddersfield after the final whistle.
Today was awful. Turgid dross sums it up. I t would been unfair on Tranmere if we had sneaked a win, but that was never on the cards. Green was dire and should have been replaced at half-time. The Kermit and BWP partnership never looked like working. For me, Wiggins and Stephens were the only players with any drive today. Not a good day. My son did get Manish Bhasin's autograph before the game, though.
Back home after the game and reading some of the comments. I wholeheartedly agree that the Solly Green giant act didn't work as expected and CP was right to take Green off and put Waggy back on. When that happened we began to look a little more threatening. The BWP Kermit double act needs work but towards 70 minutes Kermit began understanding where BWP was running to and there were some interesting little threats whcih arose from that. Ponders comments on another thread about Kermit's headers bemused me, because he appeared to be the one player that could head in the right direction and create. We allowed Tranmere to threaten us and Enoch was his usual lumbering self, we also enouraged them to play head tennis so much that I was looking for Daily and Semedo to appear from the mists. The reffing was below par at this level with the linos not keeping up with play (One of the Tranmere corners was a complete travesty) and the way the ref dealt with their goalies timewasting was complete nonsense. How he only got five minutes of extra time when they wasted three delaying our penalty. All in all we were lucky to nick a draw with that combination. Don't want to see Green start against Stevenage but would be relaxed if either Kermit or Hayes took the second slot up front. Did I see a little bit of dissent by BWP to our bench? If so that needs to be stamped on quickly
