Apparently Noel Gallagher (a fave of mine, I love Oasis) is to record Man Citys FA Cup Final Song, and Tom Jones is to re-record a version of Delilah for the potters! Would be great if this happened, seen it in some cheap tabloid papers and online!

 

Stacy ****ing soloman is going to sing the national anthem, how many starters from each team will not be arsed about it, or could even sing one sentence.

Let Gallagher sing the city song, then bring out Tom too belt out our city song, **** the national anthem, this is multi-cultural sport nowadays

FOOTIE City rivals Stoke and Manchester are set for an FA Cup Final song ding-dong – *after unveiling plans to get top showbiz names in on the act.

Sources at mega-rich Manchester City claim the club is planning to ask some of Britain’s most famous Blues to perform a Band Aid-style charity single.

And legendary crooner Sir Tom Jones is in talks with Stoke to revamp his classic tune Delilah.

The Sixties hit has long been a fans’ favourite at the Britannia Stadium and a spokesman said: “The club would be delighted if Tom agreed to re-do Delilah as the song for the FA Cup Final.

“The reaction of our supporters at Wembley for the semi-final – when Delilah was played over the PA system – was first class. It really helped make it feel like a home game.

“The song is sung by supporters at every game, home and away, and in particular when we score a goal. There were at least five renditions at Wembley for the 5-0 win over Bolton.”

In the Blue corner, Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher has been sounded out to help pen a song to help good causes.

Other names in the mix include legendary Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, TV funnyman Jason Manford, ex-boxing champ Ricky Hatton and former England cricket star Freddie Flintoff.

Gallagher, 43, recently admitted he wasn’t far off doing something for his beloved Blues.

And a Man City source said last week: “The club wants to get some big names for a worthwhile song – and get the players involved too.

“It’s still uncertain what will happen but having Noel Gallagher take part makes a lot of sense.”

Gallagher said: “Someone called me from the club and asked if they could bounce a few ideas off me. If they asked seriously I don’t know. Let’s wait till they ask.”

Over-the-moon Stoke fans say they would love veteran Sir Tom, 70, to re-release a version of Delilah for them.

Supporters’ club chairman Bryan Shaw said the song gives the players and fans a lift.

“It started a long time ago when fans were trying to think of a song to sing that didn’t have any swear words in it,” he said.

“Somehow Delilah was chosen and it was an instant favourite.”

STOKE City have held talks with Tom Jones's representatives over the Welsh superstar possibly re-recording Delilah ahead of the club's FA Cup final trip.

Agents representing the singer approached the club around a week ago to find out details about how the song had become such a hit among fans.

And officials at Stoke are keeping their fingers crossed the 70-year-old will belt out the song, which has become the anthem among Potters fans, for their trip to Wembley on May 14.

But it remains unknown whether the likes of Matthew Etherington and Ryan Shawcross would appear on the record if the worldwide star did agree to the recording.

A spokesman for the club said talks between the Potters and the singer are in their infancy.

He said: "The club would be delighted if Tom agreed to re-do Delilah as the song for the FA Cup final.

The last time a song was produced to commemorate a Stoke cup run was in 1972 when Jackie Trent and Tony Hatch composed We'll Be With You, after the Potters reached the League Cup final.

And fans have given the thumbs up for Tom to step behind the microphone and perform Delilah once again.

Nic Mansfield, secretary of the Stoke City Supporters' Club, said: "It would be brilliant if he did re-record the song. It still amuses me that we sing Delilah as it is just so far removed from football.

"It shows how far we have come that there is a possibility of him getting involved. I remember when we made the play-off final against Brentford in 2002 and we talked about it then."

It is believed the origins of Stoke fans singing Delilah date back to the 1980s when supporter Anton Booth sang the number during an away trip to Derby County.

Supporters say local police had warned them not to play any songs on a pub jukebox that contained swear words and therefore they picked Delilah.

Poet Pete Davies backs that particular theory.

The 57-year-year old from Great Budworth near Northwich, said: "I remember that era and seeing Anton stand at the front of the crowd and just start singing it. It is an unusual song to be adopted by a football crowd, but I love it, and it would be brilliant if Tom Jones did re-record it."
