I thought Austin's link-up play was very good in the first half, but he is a player that exists to get on the end of crosses and there weren't any.
No service for Jane's great grandson today. Not one cross. At the end he played deeper with JET advanced. Not so sure that it was effective.
Tell me you were at the game today? If so you would have seen that Austin was not at the races. He kept apologising to team mates for messing up good attacks or simple passes. Agree it changed when JET came on but for me his mind was elsewhere. However the service was not the best at times so that would not help his cause.
Were you at the game yourself? If you were, I don't see how you could say that Austin was not at the races in the first half. He barely saw the ball in the second half.
Bloody hell stroller you should change your name to stalker. If you think Charlie was good then so be it Even our manager said we were not good enough up front today. But we could always blame Henry.
Part of the issue today - in my view - was that Phillips was poor He should be supplying crosses in from either flank but kept ignoring the wide areas and hovering centrally waiting for someone else to supply the ball He can deliver a great cross, but just looked off the pace today Junior on the other hand was a live wire, though even he sometimes wanted to take on one Preston player too many
Just responding to your posts, not stalking. Mind you, we seem to be having the same conversation on two separate threads. The manager said scoring goals was a problem, not that we lack a goalscorer. Give Austin the service and he will score.
Agree Phillips lacked something today. In one attack he didn't have the sharpness of old. Hoilett was a different player today but seemed to fade like most in the second half.
Col, I made a comment about getting Dyche in on 'The next manager thread' during the week. You said you couldn't stand him along with Pearson. One of the reasons that I mentioned them and particularly Dyche is that last season he started the same starting Xl for something like 9 games. ( It maybe more or it maybe less but it's there or there about's. ) But do you not see how fit his squads are within a limited budget? How much would we like to see the same starting Xl take to the pitch every week with a game-plan that tries to win games and takes it to the opposition regardless of who they are? They go out there and leave it all on the pitch, win, lose or draw. Not like our prima donnas who had to huff and puff through the second half. Yet here we are today still trying to fathom out our best starting Xl? Dyche would pick up on who is the best eleven play them in their right places and come up with a consistent game-plan. It's what we've been crying out for for ages. How difficult is that? I know Burnley got relegated along with us, but they did make a better fist of it than we did. They're also making a better fist of it this season ( even after selling two of their best players ) and the season we fluked it via the play offs and on a very very limited budget. Imagine what he could do with us with a better squad and a little sprinkle of stardust? Dyche is the man we need to get in.
So Austin tops the scorers table earlier in the season, gets injured and then 8 days after his return he gets labelled past it? Can this be merged with the joke thread?
Can Austin not just have had a bad game without his heart "not being in it"? Phillips has been pony since the transfer window closed
Are you not aware of the fact that a player has two stages of fitness? Players need regular games to get to "match fitness". Some more than others, but they all need a certain amount of games to get to their optimum fitness level.
