Having watched the game on Sky tv (so not having the benefit of 'off the ball work') i felt a mixture of emotions during the 90 minutes. Needless to say not one was a positive feeling! We seem no better off now than when Neil Warnock was sacked. There can be many causes for such little progression with some saying we are on our 2nd or 3rd team this season or tactics have changed and have to be implemented but desire and passion comes from within and this or lack of this is what hurt me the most today! Tactically naieve at best, Cisse on the left side when there are few better players at spinning off the shoulder of centre backs! Traore should have started there if he was intent on that formation! The time, space and movement the Chelsea players had was embarrasing and what little possesion we had was squandered with bad passing, TOTAL lack of movement or indecision! Why wait to go 5 goals down before moving our best goal threat into his natural position? At least Neil would have had the balls to stick more men up front when trying to get back into the game! Like many who watched the game, im sure we were all screaming for him to change something......anything but to have such indecision from a supposedly 'top class manager' was another embarrasing moment during a highly embarrasing game! The lack of fight made me fuming, the lack of desire made me fuming, the lack of passion made me fuming but most of all the lack of inspiration from our manager and staff made my blood boil!!! Some will say that to put more up front could lead to more Chelsea goals, my opinion or changes would have seen us start 4-4-2 with Traore, Derry, Barton and Mackie across the midfield but with the team Hughes started then the changes he made should have come much sooner with DJ coming on aswell!!! I honestly couldnt care less if Hughes went as i dont think he has progressed our team with the money he spent any better than what Warnock could have!!
Definitely not a good day for Sparky today, lots of things wrong, but I still think ha has way more than Colin to offer. Besides, Colin is your boss isn't he Bob, you're hardly unbiased.......
I'm finding it hard to disagree with any of that Bob!! I said very similar things on another thread!!
Agreed, the whole performance was a complete and utter unacceptable shambles. The answer to the original question is " no ."
After reading this a couple of times, i really can't argue with most or any of it. There is no doubt in my mind (only my opinion) that MH is a better manager, but today i was absolutely bewildered by our performance. The players and management have to take the blame equally. Can't understand why MH did not change it at 1-0 or 2-0. Amazing. He deffo did not cover himself in glory today, thats for sure.
We all saw that sh**e effort today, and we all agree it was totally unacceptable. We all saw how flat we were, how lifeless our players were and most worrying how little passion they showed for the jersey and our survival. Can anybody please explain what the f**k happened today. I just can't get my head around it. Was it that the opposition are 5 odd goals better than us, or what did we get so wrong? I could understand a 1-0, 2-0 loss to better opposition, but not 6-1. For years Man Utd polaxed teams at Old Trafford and yet very rarely did they manage to score 6 goals, even against rubbish opposition. I would love to hear your thoughts, because i am just totally flummoxed.
My point is mate, that there is sh**e and then there was today. Today went way beyond sh**e. Teams can be bad and concede 3 even 4. But 6-1.
Were we worse than against Fulham away? Were we worse than against Sunderland away ( or at home when the final score flattered us hugely)? Were we worse than the first halves of Spurs and Blackburn away? Possibly, but we were also playing a much better team ( possible exception of Spurs at that stage of the season), on a high from a remarkable achievement against Barca. We've been spineless and disorganized before this year. Really can't afford to be again though.
We lacked enough players who really wanted to fight and run for the cause mate. Too many over paid, inflated egos with no stomach for the fight! MH also got the formation wrong. We should have had Cisse and Zamora up against their make-shift back 4!! MH is far too cautious away from home! We needed something from this game.....I don't think the result would have been any different, but the score-line certainly could have been. Chelsea were very good and with Torres and Mata returning to form and Di Matteo fielding a surprise strong team, it turned out to be a bad time to play them!!
I just thought it was all wrong from the start It was all too conservative when we know we had to batter their back line with cisse and Zamora Changing formation when 5 down ? Stable door horse & bolted springs to mind
Hard to disagree as it was a utter shambles. But honestly, I do think we have improved - but only at home. Away we look a mess and incapable of performing. No idea why tbh. Today was awful, and we had nothing all game, nothing. Quite amazing seeing how much the game means.
Not only have we not progressed, we've actually gone backwards. Hughes has turned out to be a dreadful appointment.
