Nope - Koeman wanted him way before Walsh joined them and that it was the first signing of the Walsh era was coincidental.

As for us signing him, I wouldn't have complained but he did get all of his stats for a team that spent most of their time defending - when he was at Lille, he was nowhere near those numbers.

 

He never stood out for me but stats are similar to Kante's...!

Considering that Villa were constantly defending its no surprise he made so many tackles/interceptions.
