Now this will sound like delusion on Liverpool/Spurs scale proportions but so far I actually think we have improved as a team slightly. Just done my voting for POTY and GOTY on the website and I struggled to pick a player. I'd have gone for any of Ramires, Mata, Ivanovic or even JT. Even Mikel and Torres in with a shout. Compare that to last year when I struggled to pick an outfield player, I think I went for Cech who eventually won it, which pretty much sums up how uninspiring we were. I felt we finished in a false position last year, in truth City and Arsenal were probably better than us and I'd have had us down as probably being on par with them or just below in 4th. Minus about 10 games this season I feel in terms of creativity and big game performances as well as team spirit we've come on leaps and bounds, just hope we have something to show for it next month.
Robbie has turned things around. No doubt about that. After a disasterous half a season we are looking like a decent side again. Just hope we win the CL so Abramovich can stop obsessing about it and let the manager manage.
Only Mata has assisted more goals for us this season It would at least be a consideration, but I'd have 4 or 5 over him myself.
What you saying? I'm simply saying your player of the year has to be Ramires or Mata. But certainly not Torres.
Question was ,have we improved as a team . Since when ????/ Last year, Christmas. Answer to either is......... who knows ?? Last year we did better in PL, but we saw the beginning of the "player dummy spit ". Impossible to tell how hard we tried. This year it was even worse. So I'll take a guess. I don't think we have improved overall since last year, in fact, probably eased off a tad due to ageing of players. AVB improved squad with Mata, etc Ramires and Luiz ditto before that. We have sure improved our play since Christmas, but that's mainly down to better imput from the players and better man management from RDM. Only in the last few weeks do we actually have anything to measure our performances by, and it's not pretty looking back. We should have been much better all last year and all this year.
We're fighting harder that's all, the football still leaves much to be desired. The spirit was broken under that pompous, arrogant, inexperienced portugeezer and Robbie has made them hungry again. Had we not had to go through the agony of AVB we MAY have had a chance of finishing 3rd. Team spirit and experience may have been enough but the cull should have been more ruthless the summer after the double win.
Right on !! Lets hope the improved performances of the last month or so don't cloud the issue at seasons end. Get out the chain saw and cut them loose. No mercy.
Not sure how our prem performances will hold up now with 2 cup finals on the horizon either. The team to play the Queenies will be interesting to see.
Especially after Newcastle got tonked and Arsenal slipped up as well !!!! A win now would be another huge lift to spirits.
