Hasselbaink: I want Caulker to stay at QPR By David McIntyre 01/07/2016 please log in to view this image Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says he is desperate for Steven Caulker to stay at QPR. Defender Caulker, an £8m signing from Cardiff in 2014, was loaned out by Rangers following their relegation from the Premier League last year. He spent the first half of the season at Southampton before securing amove to Liverpool, where he did not start a league match. Caulker, 24, recently returned to QPR for pre-season training and has impressed manager Hasselbaink, who says he wants to keep him. “Steven Caulker has come back absolutely magnificent,” Hasselbaink declared. please log in to view this image Hasselbaink has been impressed with Caulker in training “That’s not a player I’d want to let go and not a player I see going. He’s going to stay with us. “I do not want to let him go. He can help us achieve what we want to achieve. He’s a part of my plans. If it’s up to me, I don’t let him go. “How Steven Caulker has come back and has trained in the last two weeks, I’d prefer to keep him.” ‘Can’t sustain’ However, Rangers are looking to offload their highest-earning players ahead of the new Championship campaign and will listen to offers for the likes of Caulker. Crystal Palace have expressed an interest and a potential deal for the former Tottenham centre-back has been discussed. Meanwhile, a deal has been agreed for Leroy Fer to join Swansea on a permanent basis following his loan spell at the Welsh club last season. But hopes of offloading Sandro were dashed when he recently failed a medical at Sporting Lisbon. And West Brom, who had a bid for Matt Phillips rejected last summer, havemade enquiries about the R’s winger in recent weeks but are yet to make an offer. “We can’t sustain those kind of wages. Maybe we could for one, but not for four or five,” Hasselbaink admitted.
If we get a reasonable offer, he'll obviously go, but if he stays then it could be interesting. I think a season of rebuild in the Championship could do him the world of good, and he could be a big asset for us.
Agree. Much maligned, and not without some cause, but quite possibly worth a go if JFH likes what he sees and the fans give him a half chance.
Complete liability on the pitch, a terrible example and influence off it and on Premier League wages. What's not to love?
He'll likely come back and pick a fight with the cleaners broom, and lose. I just hope the sprinklers don't upset him.
It's just Hasselbaink trying to turn a loan offer into a permanent transfer deal. Yes we need his wages off the bill, but we also need cash to strengthen. We can't keep loaning him out until his contract ends, loosing our £8m investment in full. Next summer he'll be in his last year and we're in **** creek bargaining wise.
I guess it comes down to his mindset, if he really wants to make a go of it for both he and the club ........... good, but if he hasn't changed from his previous attitude, go.
this could be JFH kidology. Build the player up, getting him to perform and prove to JFH that he is a good player. Get in the first team, gets noticed and the maybe sold. Personally, I think that this is a move to get him noticed. He hasn't really fitted into QPR so a parting of the ways is inevitable. It's just about getting the best deal all round. For what he is earning, he hasn't proved he is worth it. just a shame because with a clear head he could have been as asset
i have to say that three players stood out carl kewpna jet and unbelievavbley corker but i think corker is only trying hard to get a new club but his athleticsm was quite amazing he coverd every blade of grass
JET is another playing for a new club, as JHF doesn't think he will fit into his side. Normally ex Arsenal players can fit into most teams - I would have thought he would be good enough to be a squad player for us.
