To be a supporter of Ipswich Town? God I have seen some pretty bland periods namely under John Duncan but this is much worse than that! I like Mick for all that he has achieved in saving us from the drop and stabilising us and then giving us a realistic chance of promotion last season. I really thought that this would be our season when we would go that one step further but even before bonfire night is upon us I just feel that we are meandering to another mid table season. The club should have built on the foundations that were laid down last season and spent some money on quality especially at right back and in centre midfield but alas we were given more freebies and cast offs. I am beginning to believe that Mick has taken us as far as he can and the results are beginning to prove it. Only one win in 10 now I believe! I am a very fed up Town supporter at the moment.
This season is far from over....and Mick has in my opinion earned the right to be given time to get things back on track........coyb
He deserves **** all, he has dished up nothing but bland hoofball, bout time some got their head out their arse and realised this!
Join the club Warky I've been critical of MM's style of play ,or lack of it for quite a while. He runs Duncan pretty close for boring football,I can remember him signing Baltacha,a real coup to get a world class sweeper but never had the balls to play him in his best position, the poor guy spent most of his time at PR watching the ball sail over his head.
I agree entirely with Warky’s first paragraph (subject to the proviso that I haven’t been to a game this season so as far as dull footie goes I can only comment on the TV games and press/fan reaction) and Weighty’s response. I mentioned on here before that the team that finishes bottom in the Prem next season cops for around 80 million, so how did we go about building on last season to try and get it? I don’t know that chucking large amounts of money about would have done it (hard to believe that Mick’s as bad as Madge/Keane/Jewell with the cheque book), but the reinforcement policy we saw in the summer is hardly going for it. Of course, we don’t know under what circumstances and general logic the owner and his pals plus Mick are working under, so without that knowledge I’m still happy that MM is the right bloke – who knows if our current bunch would be shipping Jewell/Keane style results without Mick in charge. And if we really do have to scratch about with Brentford/Leeds etc rejects for genuine reasons, Mick’s yer man.
I suppose what we are experiencing is similar, albeit on a smaller scale to the Man Utd issue. The results are never overly bad, the players are not doing too much wrong but your never going to walk away from a game going 'wow that was fun' LVG is obviously getting the job done but fans and players want to enjoy as well. Its definitely the hardest time of my town supporting life. Keane was poor but it was obvious he had no future here as he was talentless. With MM I cant see a positive as he is doing a safe job and has had us punching above our weight. Its just dull and an experience I don't enjoy and a mindset I cant buy into
Even ardent MM supporters like JWM have now realised that Mick has run out of time Others keep saying we owe it to MM to give him more time, why? Everything has an end, if you had a car for ten years and it served you well but it kept breaking down you would eventually replace it with a newer model, and MM is no different, he was hired to do a job, he saved us from relegation (and got a million for doing it) but now he is incapable of progressing further. And as for saying he took us to the brink last year, much like Murphy a lot of us new it was a one season wonder Can we afford to wait much longer for improvement, I don't think so I'm sure if we beat Bolton Tuesday there will be those that say that MM has steadied the ship, we won't get relegated so alls well, but that is just blinkered bullshit It's time people got real on here and take off their rose coloured glasses We are going nowhere, and if Mick stays then you had better be ready for several more years of the rankest disorganised turgid excuse for football. But we owe to Mick!! What a load of ****, like any other job , you don't produce the goods your out why should he be treated any different
Why not warky, with the right package I'm sure JFH would jump at the chance of managing a mid table championship club with a chance at the premiership(with the right investment)
" This season is far from over....and Mick has in my opinion earned the right to be given time to get things back on track........coyb " Weighty while I am in the Mick camp generally, being at Hillsborough yesterday made me feel quite sick as a town fan yesterday - though having checked the table, how the hell are we just 6 points off the play offs with zero wins in 7? Rotherham and Bolton coming, minimum 4/6 required, ideally 6/6 and the season COULD yet get back on track - but I'm starting to question realistically if it will. Last season, whether people liked the squad, Mick, the style of play, it worked and got us top 6. Obviously several teams played more sparkly footy - if we'd tried last season with what we had to go attacking on the deck, we'd have got mullered. If we wind back to the Brighton game, everything looked so simple. Top of the league, Fraser + Niles added, bla bla we know the rest. But it's quickly become very disappointing. The reasons I started about Sheff Weds is the style of play - christ do they try to play footy, but look at the £££ they're spending, wage bill, etc. Very hard to compete. I look at us at the moment, the form, then look around the league. What can we achieve this season? I don't know - however, I'm going to have to say this. Sadly, as I want Mick to succeed and this squad to. In my opinion, IF we DON'T beat EITHER Bolton or Rotherham, then I'm sorry Mick I think with the international break it may actually be the time for you to leave. I've been impressed by the job he's done, but the least 10 results this season have been very poor. THAT SAID, I want us to get 6/6, go into the international break in a much stronger position, and hopefully start to click. That's about all I can say. Very disappointed we didn't win. At least Mick's gone for a more attacking side on paper anyway. We HAVE to beat Bolton to get ourselves back into the groove. C'mon Town.
I didn't see the game on the weekend, but I've been assured it was another dull encounter by the team. To be brutally honest, watching us play live, on a regular basis, just doesn't appeal to me that much anymore. Leaving aside several other factors, my decision ultimately boils down to the fact that we've reverted to the ultra-conservative, long-ball club (a style, it's worth noting, that has arguably been found out at this level) and, more pertinently for me, the cost following our club is not financially feasible right now. I know I'm probably viewed as 'pro-McCarthy', and that's a wise assumption. I'll make no excuses for his erratic team selection, narrow-minded stubbornness, and his reversal to a negative style of football, yet I believe he is our best manager since Joe Royle. This is a man who stabilised the club and got us punching well above our weight last season. His transfer record has, on the whole, been relatively good. I don't think you can make an effective argument that McCarthy has been 'bad' for the club, so I find some of the more extreme criticism on here a little reactionary. However, the question seems to be "has McCarthy taken the club as far as he can?" and, as every week goes by, I'm starting to believe that he has. His team selection is, generally, overly loyal at best and misguided at worst. Key players are not performing in the squad, and while McCarthy cannot be held entirely responsible for this; the buck, ultimately, stops at the manager. But it's the style that bugs me most of all about McCarthy. He's too cautious and while that worked last season, I feel clubs are beginning to suss us out. Many clubs have invested heavily and wisely over the summer (something Westy pointed out with regards to Sheffield Wednesday, but there are several other clubs as well), and I think that's generally improved the league as a whole and has thus made it more difficult to 'overachieve'. My main concern with booting McCarthy, rightly regarded as a somewhat safe pair of hands, is the uncertainty of the future. Some people seem to think bringing in a younger, more 'progressive' manager with a different style will magically transform the team and get us competing for the play-offs again. It probably won't. The issue here, for me, is a lack of investment. That's what this club needs. I know some posters, such as Weighty, would disagree with me, but I really think that if we do get rid of McCarthy and bring in a new manager, the new man will have to be supported by a strong transfer/wage budget to implement the changes he'd like and, most crucially, to improve and bolster this squad into realistic promotion contenders.
I'd also say that as bad and dour as we've been recently, the years under Roy Keane and Paul Jewell were far worse than what we're experiencing under McCarthy. There were genuinely times when I feared for the future of our club under those two idiots and, let's be honest, relegation to the third division didn't require a stretch of the imagination. Hell, at least we got a play-off place under McCarthy, rather than the continuous scrap in lower mid-table which summed up the Keane/Jewell era. Give me mid-table stability over a scrappy relegation dogfight, any season.
So you would be happy with mid table, exactly proving my point, too many scared to take a chance and would rather play relatively safe, in their eyes!! At least Norwich and their fans had balls!! On the whole MM's signings have been good, really? I beg to differ!!
Stick with MM forever and a day, give him a new 10 yr contract, as long as we dont take a risk...... Hell lets be happy with another 10 yrs in this division, rather that than take a chance on someone else!! ****ing amazing!!
