Two stupid things O Driscoll said in his time with us was 1)Don't know where we are in the table and the famous 2)stupid question comment Now Steve Cotterill says the fixture release date is more important for the fans than it is for me(Steve Cotterill) Why? Why? Why?,please Steve, just say nothing about your own personal thoughts of OUR team.
http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20140527-cotterillonfixture-1575013.aspx He also said... * He insists he is concentrating on refining his squad for 2014/15 rather than looking ahead to the fixture release date on Wednesday, June 18th. * “I won’t get a buzz from that until it comes, at the moment my only buzz is getting my team sorted for next season,” * “You’re going to play 46 games; the only things that are of value to me are if the fixtures are right in and around Christmas and Easter. * “I’ve seen all of our opponents now, we’ve just got to wait until the fixtures come out and see what we get.” * The Robins manager believes the unveiling of the new calendar, three weeks today, is a date for fans more than managers. Quite a sensible attitude I believe..
I don't have a problem with this (if true) and he's probably right.... We all want to see who we're playing the first game of the season, who and where we'll be on Boxing Day, New Years Day, who we'll face on the last day of the season etc As Manager he shouldn't be overly bothered
Regarding the new fixtures if any one wants the important fixtures sent to them at 09:00am on June 18 drop your mobile number in the private box
Darkside... Darkside... Darkside..... I think your barking up the wrong tree here! I think this is a honest answer from the gaffer, from his point of view it doesnt really matter when we play people as we have too play everyone twice regardless. But us fans do look forward too it...... want to know when and where we are planning our away trips...... when we gain promotion when we will win the league etc...... Surly the management team have more pressing things too worry about then the fixture list release...... for them I would imagine its just another day in the calendar! This is not in the same league as the quotes from SOD!
I doubt there is a single thing that could be more stupid said by a manager such as "No, I haven't seen where we are in the league. I don't care where we are, can't affect it, can't affect it." when the team you have just been put in charge of is in a relegation battle. By far the worst manager I have ever seen at Ashton Gate that bloke. A fixture list is different, doesn't mean a whole lot, we know who we are playing, and there is no real obvious candidate to dominate this year like Wolves last year. When it came out this time last year, were any of us thinking "oh god lets hope we don't get Leyton Orient on New Years day!" ? No, because they weren't seen as strong contenders to be top at any stage. So the fixture list won't mean a great deal, you just hope you have some home games at the end of December so you don't have to far to travel, but it will be a big lottery next year as to who gets it right and goes up.
"Didn't see it coming" and "don't know what happened" after City put in a dog at Sheffiield, but not as bad as the dog at Brentford. Went beyond stupid. Anybody who went to Brentford and Wolves knew another **** performance was always in the post and understood what had happened. Sometimes its better to say as little as possible and apologise.
The Sheffield United game at home was the worst I saw all season, it took 18 minutes for the first shot! I would like an easy August and April to give us a positive start and a good chance when needed at the crunch time. Home fixtures would be nice on Boxing Day and Easter Monday.
the only relevance the fixture list has is what it gives us to start with...the first 10 games away to SHEFF PNE PETERBRO BARNSLEY WALSALL WOULD BE A HARD START AND 7 POINTS GOOD! LIKEWISE HOME TO fLEETWOOD CHESTERFIELD ROCHDALE DONCASTER AND YEOVIL COULD BE A MINE FIELD!... ORIENTS FIRST DOZEN MATCHES WERE AGAINST TEAMS FINISHING IN THE BOTTOM 10
Sheffield Utd scored at Ashton Gate without having a shot on target were all over Bristol City for virtually the entire game at Bramall road. Second best all over the pitch and unable to keep hold of the ball. Far worse than the home game but nowhere near as bad as the ole game. Brentford fans giving it ole ole as City couldnt touch the ball in the first half. Stewards had to open the gates half an hour early or they would have been kicked open in the away end. As bad as Leicster and Wolves at home a few seasons ago.
We were **** against Shef Utd Wolves and Brentford, but we escaped relegation, when most thought we would go down! Under SoD I was bored ****less most games, the bloke was boring in his teams play, boring in his aftermatch speach and IMO would off taken us down into league 2 Now which one would I choose?
I don't think SC will ever win prizes for saying the right things at the right times all of the time. He is not a politician who carefully considers every word. Perhaps like SOD did. So occasionally he will get mixed metaphors and say something that does not sound right. But the guy has so much more passion for what he is doing and is trying to do with his players, that I will put up with the occasional gaff.
Agreed. If history shows us anything Cotterill has fifteen games left in the job before he is sacked and replaced with someone the polar opposite of him.
Exactly.... SC did come good and delivered what many people said he couldn't do regardless of what he said and with games too spare!! Unfortunately some people wont ever give him the credit he is due, except what he has done and will just wait and wait too see if it goes wrong to say..... I told you he was sh1t......... blah blah blah....
Its a silly comparison. Incompetent performances like that at Griffin Park where the very basics are not being achieved, and where even natural abilities like running go missing are preferrable to nothing. Staying at home was preferrable. The eventual outcome does not make that level of unprofessionalism somehow suddenly ok. Hopefully that performance which paralleled the very worst in the last ten years won't be seen again next season.
No it's not a silly comparison. One gave us 3 incompetent performance and one gave us 2-3 competent performances. One took us down without a whimper last season and looked like he was about to do the same this season. One changed the mentality of the team into taking us to a safe position in the league with games to spare. One gave us 45 minutes against Carlisle and a good performance against Orient and Port Vale the other gave us a 5-0 victory over Port Vale and a 3-1 against Orient away plus a victory against Carlisle. So nope not a silly comparison, but I suppose you will come back with some comment trying to look like you are a worthy supporter of City and I'm just a results man.
