- on the next Wales coach? Cheeky young bugger, wants putting in his place I reckon. Doubt AW would think much of that.
The situation with Wales is like no other. The manager is gone but his staff are still there and the players clearly like them. Basically, the players do need to be involved in this case because of what happened. The Welsh FA clearly need to get the team together and talk about what will happen next because like I said its a strange situation. The success of the current team was not only down to Speed. The guys in the background are liked and had contributed. As Ramsey says, the Welsh FA have not even spoken to the players after what happened so there is a lot of confusion around the team. Being the captain he has a right to have some voice in this process of taking the next step. Ramsey and his fellow players want some of the people who worked under Speed to remain. And I see nothing wrong with that.
I wouldn't want to be the next Wales coach, doubt any of them will be able to achieve what Speedo was looking like he could. And Comparisons will be made, which will be awful for the guy in charge.
think about it, the coach has died, and for 6 weeks the players havent been told anything, he's not saying he wants to dictate who gets the job, merely that the FWA should be communicating with players as to when they will be appointing a new manager, i think thats a reasonable request..
he'll be playing at least to the end of the 2012/13 season, that rules him out straight away, and anyway, he's not a committed welshman in the mould of a speed or hartson, no thankyou
As captain Ramsey should be afforded a little more respect, he has every right to feel aggrieved that no-one from the Welsh FA has spoken with him, he is part of the management structure. I can appreciate that in the immediate aftermath of Speeds sad death that communication can go wrong, but that was 6 weeks ago, they've had time to consider their actions and ensure that all relevant parties are kept informed. For what it's worth I don't see Giggs ever taking the Wales role, I think if he is looking at a coaching career after retirement then he'll be focussed firmly on Utd (and whatever role may exist there) and unless the two roles can be combined I only see the Wales role being 2nd choice. Chris Coleman would be the obvious answer right now...
He is captain, they should at least consult him about it. Personally I am impressed that at his age he feels able to criticise them for it.
Right - so is JT as captain or Gerrard, or heaven forbid Rooney - going to be asked about their opinion on having old twitchy as England manager?
Well no because everyone knows Redknapp will get it. When Ramsey along with Bale are held up as the posterboys for the future Wales team I don't think its unreasonable to give them a say in who the next coach is. I do see your point though.
I make the Wales situation very diferent - the country was plunged into shock with Speeds death, there would have been a responsibility on Ramsey to round up the troops, offer words of support etc at such a difficult time, If I was Welsh FA Chief I would have expected the captain of the National team to take a lead, it's therefore very reasonable that he should criticise the Welsh FA for their failure to communicate properly with him
If they give the job to Toshack again i'm going to rip my wales shirt up. And not Coleman either, ****e manager. Guus Hiddink is available, he's taken smaller jobs before, hiring him makes sense. Mind you, this is the FAW we're talking about...
Don't forget that Speed's relative success is down to Toshack laying the foundations. It is only because of Toshack that we have a full time U21 coach for the first time ever
Yes, but as a manager, Toshack was ****. We were 114th in the world under him. When Speedo took over, we climbed to 40 something, and were probably going to qualify for the world cup. I'd give the job to Hiddink, or let the assistants have a crack at it. Same players, same tactics.
What makes you'd think we'd probably qualify for the World Cup also don't you remember our excellent start to qualification for Euro 2004 under Hughes. That soon went tits up
