With the season careering to a close what does everyone make of the 25 man rule which the blinkered, biased FA brought in? My own take on the reasons behind it were to bring on good young English players to bolster our ailing and ageing national team. The reality is that apart from about 4 players (Wilshire, Rodwell, Albrighton and Henderson) who were already on the up, I cannot think of anymore young English players who have been brought on by their respective clubs through this ruling. I could be wrong and hopefully someone can put me right on this. This ruling in my opinion has been a total crock and should be reassessed or even binned for next season however the FA in their wisdom will believe that this has worked well and will push forward with their new rule of only spend what you earn. This is a ruling which will hamper the teams with small grounds or crowds and will put those teams who are promoted from the Championship under even more pressure. I do understand why this rule is being thought of, to stop clubs going under which is fair enough I just can't see this working either as the clubs that are going under are not PL teams.
i don't understand how it was supposed to help that in the first place. henderson isn't even in our 25, as he's under 21, and any number of u21 players can play as much as they want, or as little. just pointless red tape.
I dont think it has worked tbh, just look at villa, they brought 4 or 5 into the 1st team and were hovering at the bottom of the table, my view is, if you are good enough you will get a chance regardless of any stupid rule, if you are not you wont. and look at Man U, all i can think of is Smalling, but tbh he probably would have been in anyway with Ferdinand and Vidic out, maybe Mceachan at Chelsea would have had to wait another year or 2, but then maybe he wouldnt, who knows. As for the not spending what you dont earn, it has some sense in it, but the big teams (Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal etc) will just continue to dominate, and the other clubs like us and Villa/Everton will always be also rans, you need a few seasons in the top 4 and fighting for European Honours before you get revered around the world, this will make the top 4 get stronger as they can spend lots, and the rest will have to become selling clubs (you can only spend what you earn, so smaller teams will put a premium on players, so sell 1 buy 5 and probably from abroad) so it still wont help the national game imho. And the also rans, we will always be playing catch up. You could say, well have a go at the Coca-Cola or FA Cup, but lets be honest, Portsmouth are not exactly revered around the world, and I bet Birmingham wont be (neither Fulham nor Boro for geting to the final of the Uefa) its Champions League or nothing for me. (to get the cash/world renown, I would love just to win something/anything in my lifetime tbh)
Think its bollocks, and will eventually put English teams at a disadvantage, its a Blatter ruse to kick us in the teeth
