What is the general feeling now as to whether Bruce can survive as manager. This is not a BiBs v BoBs article but more one of how we feel rather than what we would do. For me, I don't care what he does now as it has gone too far for me. I just want him out. There may be others like me. However, for some Bobs, there may be a way back for him. Who are they? For BiBs, you must desperately want your man to deliver to shut the likes of me up but do you think if can? Is there still time for Bruce at the SOL, or has the boat sailed on his SAFC career now?
He's finished for me...credability has gone. I stuck with him till recently, but that team selection at Arsenal was just one mistake to many... Although i do wonder about some of the potential replacements.
I've never been so conflicted. The best case scenario is that we beat Bolton and he gets sacked but that's never going to happen, as if one win makes up for the dross we've had to put up with since the turn of the year. Its almost a case of lose and maybe there is a more positive outlook for SAFC if we see the back of Bruce. Even if we win today I can't see Bruce getting us 40 points so I still want him gone win lose or draw.
His weird persistence with Ricco and Elmo -then substituting off the field, the player most likely to get a a goal and the player most likely to carve them open, with 2 young players short on matchplay.
Thats it mate, i just can't believe we've gone into a new season, and they are playing. Ricco has his moments, (not many like). But Elmo is not a prem player.
Agree with comms. I fully expected brucie to go similar to the brighton game and he did. No recognised forwards on the pitch against, what had been a dodgy defence, was a mistake to many. I still expect us to win today Bendtner x 2, Wickham x 2 & Sess to score. This optimism is based on vast quantities of double maxim quaffed last night.
History tells me that any team that's struggling, as Bolton are currently should relish the chance to play Sunderland to kick-start their season! ..... now, where's me Maxim!!!
Conversely, we might do the same to them! Only a stupid manager who plays people out of position and doesn't play his best 11 could mess this one up.
Bruce's four games to date against the Trotters since he took over at the Stadium of Light have all resulted in victory, and as the Black Cats prepare to head for the Reebok Stadium on Saturday, a fifth successive win could hardly be more timely. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11695_7257263,00.html
You could put your house on us getting beat today like! Just the kind of game Sunderland lose, were forever helping other teams get their season back on track by rolling over for them! If we get beat then i EXPECT Bruce to be sacked and if hes not ill be ****in fuming!!! Oh and in answer to the question Cest, i want him gone no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!!
Richardson will never be a left back yet Bruce thinks he could rival Ashley Cole in the England set up? Elmo is championship standard at his very best yet he is played by fatso and a proper right sided player, actually brought in over the summer to play there in Larsson, is made to play left wing. Sessegnon was brought in to play wide or centrally but fatso tells him he is the new Darren Bent, when everyone knows he isn't and has dented the lads effectiveness in the team. We needed a left winger and we got everything but one. We needed to recruit full backs we got 2 centre halves and lost two in mensah and anton, so not that better off really. We desperately needed strikers but instead we lost our only one remaining and recruited 2 he doesn't want to play, then we panicked like **** in august when Gyan was allowed to leave and we got Bendtner in on loan. Don't tell me Bruce had targeted Bendtner for some time, it was **** hitting the fan time and a case of panic stations. That said, I have always liked Bendtner and he is a good player but why not a straight buy? For The same money we bought Gyan we could have had Bendtner? Then there is the subs during games. Too late to have any effect and always the wrong decisions. Creative players are sacrificed when we are desperate for goals and dross is left on to bumble on in games. Truthfully, I struggle at times to comprehend how he has lasted so long in management with the incompetent manner he conducts himself. As for the new players line and time needed to gel (his favourite excuse) it too is horse ****e. Of the 10 or so player he has bought, only 6 of them are playing together at any time. Brown and o shea have been gelling for 10 years now so I'd have thought they know each other and Larsson, vaughan, Bendtner and gardener have rarely played together anyway. Last week, 7 of the starting line up were here last season. No, Bruce is an excuse laden, useless fat clown and the longer he remains as our manager, the worse place we will be in when he eventually does go. Cut our losses Ellis, get rid of him now and give us a chance to stay up this season. Please.
I cant believe hes still in charge like! Typical Sunderland to never pay the money to get a decent manager in, just hope if he does get sacked then Short gets the cheque book out and pay good wages for a good manager. I believe the manager should earn more than the players he manages anyway!
He simply has to go..no ifs or buts. Statistics don't lie, Bruce has been a disaster for this club, he has wasted a fortune, he is tactically useless and oh yes......he is a mag. How he has lasted this long is beyond me.
Well, seen as how we are having a sensible debate without insults and fat Gerodies I will surprise everyone and try and explain why I want Bruce to succeed, a lone voice I fear. I, like everyone am puzzled, annoyed, shocked and hurt at how we are doing, Bruces team selection and formation and substitutions. That should make me want rid and I’m not a Bruce in more a not Bruce out. I do think he is a genuine man who gives his all, the Geordie roots, throwing derby games, Newcastle lover claims make me embarrassed just reading them. Because he is IMO giving his all I wont insult him because we cant ask for more than giving your all from manager or player, the question to me is not is he giving his all but is his all enough? On present form no its not so on present form he should go, contradicting myself, probably. The reason I still hope and pray he learns, changes and gets it right is because of what happens if he goes. A new manager comes in and whatever is said we know a new man will want his own players, they all do. That means the summer will bring a new rebuild, more hope, a new plan and off we go again, not sure how many more rebuilds and new dawns I have left in me. If we lose our next few games and Bruce goes then so be it, I will pick myself up and start again but, and its a big but, not far back in my mind will be, how long before its ?ob, it always seems to end up with ?ob. So for me it would be far better if Bruce gets us over this, wins games and succeeds, the chances are slim and getting slimmer but for so long as there is a chance I will hang on in and hope. 3 points today would be a start.
Well we will beg to differ on a whole range of those points Syd. His Geordie roots DO matter and the fact he socialises, lives and chooses to go and support them in his days off are critical factors when its SAFC you are managing and maneging badly - you do know we are 4th bottom and could be bottom tonight after 9 games dont you? How you can say he is giving us his all is a frightening statement. If this is his ALL, then we are truly ****ed this season. I would say he hasn't got anything else to offer and that his team selections, tactics and substitutions are amateurish at best and negligent at worst. His team building over 5 transfer windows ranks as the worst 5 transfer windows of business in living memory given the set of circumstances at his disposal. That we are 2.5 years and 5 transfer windows into his reign and dont have a recognised left back, left wing or set of capable strikers (our best one is a last minute panic loan signing) to call upon is a travesty. Whilst its true a new manager will want his own players, it could be argued that a new man might also bring in a left midfielder, strikers and a couple of full backs which would bring some sanity to our squad and a sense of real balance for the first time in 4 or 5 years. I would add that like yourself, I have some real reservations as to the sanity of yet another 5 year plan but having also seen 7 relegation's and the devastation they bring, I'll happily take a new mans thinking to avoid that scenario and if you think that is a tad dramatic, I assure you it is a genuine and reasonable belief that I think Bruce will relegate us this season if we keep him. We are currently one of 5 or 6 of the worst teams in this league (not worse squads mind but worse teams) and defeat today will put us in the relegation places with a quarter of the season now gone. With Villa and Man Utd to come next before the next break, points are like rocking horse **** for us at the moment and Bruce is all out of ideas. You can cling into the belief that he may turn this round and that that is the best option and I will cling onto the belief that the longer we do keep him as manager, the worse position we will be in when he does go. As you say, you dont know how many more new dawns you have left in you but more worryingly, how many more relegation's do you have? Like many more 1000's who have already deserted the Bruce ship, one more lamely handled relegation is my finish as well. I was speaking to a very good friend of mine who I went to school with and who has been going to games since he was 5 years old (he is 46 as well) 80% of them home and away since he was at school as well and he has just chucked his season card in the bin. Cancelled his DD and called it a day. Thats the state of SAFC in October 2011 Syd and under Bruce, its only going to get a whole lot worse mate. I can honestly see a sub 30,000 crowd in the next 1, 2 or 3 home games and thats got to be worrying for the Short master-plan. Unless he sees the misery Bruce is inflicting and sees it soon, his plans are knackered and with it so are ours and if Bruce's lasting legacy is to piss off our last chance of financial stability and have an owner that wants success then that will be this clubs sad epitaph as well mate. Bruce staying any longer as manager of SAFC = potential complete ruin for this club.
You're not alone Syd...I too have been baffled by some of the selections and formations from Bruce this season. However, by all accounts he is going for a more attacking formation today and if this means we turn a corner it is not to late for him.
Well at least two of us MrRAW, its good to have a mate..
But why is that a good thing. We all knew from day one that Sess isn't a striker, you need to play 2 strikers (especially at home) and Elmo isn't a footballer. He has told us we are all ****ers basically for daring to disagree with him and yet now he has had to humiliatingly admit he has been a ****ing gormless tit all season now and play the formation we all knew was the best, is a sign he is just a clueless fat arsehole. If he hadn't been such a ****ing tit back on August 14th, then this season may well have gone a whole lot differently. That he was a tit and it hasn't gone well wont be sorted out with a win today. He is a liability as our manager and I am staggered at how many lads, who have also witnessed so many depressing relegation's over the past 30 years, cant also see the clear writing on the wall with this manager and his handling of the club. I only hope you both, along with many others at the SOL, manage to wake up before we sleep walk into yet another relegation disaster. The next one may well be the last one for the club.
Cest you ask a question and all I have done is try and give an honest answer so why am I not awake, dont you see the anger in your replies, fat arseholes and the rest. We all have opinions and if you read what I said you would see I am indeed awake, have pointed out the problems, think Bruce will go but your question was, "has it gone to far", my answer was that for me no. Not going to argue Cest because I find the name calling childish and silly. You enjoy your day now, I am.
