Yeah and with the modern technology driving has become more simple for some
However that dosnt mean that there have more common sense
There is still to many dangerous drivers on the road
Over here there are MANY who've never even sat a test, never mind passing one!
That’s the same in any country though. Always those willing to risk conviction.
I suspect that over here there are many more police officers who are more interested in their 'tea kitty' (200 THB for any indiscretion) than convictions.
Otherwise why is it that anyone passing a school (as an example) can see loads of kids (from about 11 years old) arriving/leaving on motor cycles?
On the spot fine? I don’t know much about Thailand but I would assume that the tech isn’t there to make people pay with cards when stopped by the local fuzz.
Everything is paid in cash for speeding, not wearing a helmet etc and (to the best of my knowledge) no checks are made on Driving Licences or Insurance.
In the UK, they would be the first things demanded!
This for me an all, especially since I stopped putting my thumbs inside the wheel. Really comfy driving position imo.
I cross my hands. I often drive and steer with one hand. I dint care if anyone thinks I’m “lazy” but I certainly wasn’t taught to drive like that!!
Go on track and get taught by anyone who races cars they'll tell you to cross your arms and keep them at 9 and 3. Far more control if and when you need it than you get feeding the wheel at a snails pace. Once your arms hit 180° from where they started in the turn the hand that went underneath let's go and grabs on over the top back at 9 or 3. I'd trust a racing driver knowing how to control a car properly ahead of anyone else by a country mile
My driving instructor was a gypsy lad from Tow law and if I made any mistake he would tell me if I did that again he would rip my spine out, very effective passed first time saying that he still said 10 to 2 was the way to hold the steering wheel.
My car has a foot operated parking brake and it is released by a lever just under the steering wheel with your right hand.
the thing that got me when the dragon decided to learn (disabled brother, needed licence) was the gear changes, these days they prefer drivers to drop 4th to 2nd, i was always taught 'change up to speed up and change down to slow down' and to go through each gear in turn.
depending on my mood i usually drive without crossing hands over as that was how i was taught, i was also told (as above) that i was shown how to pass my test and the real learning came during the rest of my driving life...probably the truest statement i ever heard as no one will ever face every possible situation that can arise when driving, we all face many though and each is a part of that learning.
