The last three games between the sides have ended in draws I think we do well to get another one and after Tuesday very poor performance we should be hoping to avoid another one. A 1-1 draw for me.

Manager's press briefing ahead of Saturday's game

Manager John Ward reported that there were no new injury worries for his side of Saturday’s game at Hartlepool and added that he expected a tough test for his side.

Hartlepool are currently six points and four places better off than Rovers and on Tuesday, while Rovers were going down 1-2 against Dagenham & Redbridge they were involved in a goalless draw at Accrington.

“The boys are fine”, he said, adding; “we’ve bounced back from disappointments before and we had gone six games undefeated before Tuesday. It’s always disappointing when runs like that come to an end, but

we have to pick ourselves up very quickly because after our trip to the north east we face Southend at home next Friday night.

“I think Saturday’s game is a good test for us, as we will be facing a side that has done well and has a number of good players. Don’t forget, though, that our last two away performances have been particularly strong and our attitude has been good. “There’s no doubt we will have to replicate out performances at Scunthorpe and Northampton. Our reports suggest that Hartlepool start games very quickly and if we can

look after that and are in a strong position 20 minutes in, we will see if we can take it on.

“We are aware that picking up points from our trip to Victoria Park won’t be easy, but we can take heart from our results at Scunthorpe and Northampton, where we picked up points and played quite well in the process.”

The manager, whose side train en route to the north east tomorrow, has a number of options open to him now that he has an almost fully fit squad to choose from.

“The bench is pretty strong as well, and we used it as best we could on Tuesday. “There are people raring to go, which is good news, and that may put the starting eleven on edge a little bit, but that’s no bad thing.”

The distance his side has to travel for this fixture isn’t seen as a problem.

I don’t see the travel as a problem it’s what we do and the “We are all used to travelling long distances; we simply make sure that all the arrangements are in place and get on with things.

“The fact that we will be training at a different venue also helps, as does the fact that there is nothing to do but concentrate on the game for a couple of days

“Whatever your last result little trips such as this are good for us and preparations have been made so that, hopefully, the players put in a good performance.”

Tuesday night’s defeat won’t, he insisted, linger long in the memory.

“We have to be careful not to find too much fault with our own team simply because we have lost a game. We probably had twice as many shots as Dagenham on Tuesday, but weren’t as clinical in front of goal as they were

“I would rather be looking at a statistic like that rather than seeing we only had a couple of shots and didn’t deserve to take anything from the game.

“We don’t spend hours looking at victories and, by the same token, we don’t spend hours looking at defeats. There’s a bigger picture than that and this group of players are very good and want to do well.”

Hartlepool remain without full-backs Neil Austin (toe) and Michael Duckworth (shin) but have no new injury worries.

Pools are seeking a third successive home league win in an effort to close the five-point gap to the play-offs.

Bristol Rovers manager John Ward also has no new injuries in his squad but may be tempted to make changes after Tuesday's 2-1 defeat by Dagenham.

Striker Matt Harrold is pushing for a start after coming on as a substitute in their last two games.

Bristol Rovers captain Tom Parkes told BBC Radio Bristol:

"Lately we've been looking at teams in front of us and not behind us.

"It's really been coming off for us. The only let down was Tuesday.

"We've got to go there looking to take the three points off them, and catch up with Hartlepool."

The Negativity is back! But our record at Hartlepool isn't that bad:

November 2002 - Hartlepool 2-0 Rovers - The Pools were the best team in the division at the time, but this could have been a very different result had Adrian Coote not squandered two very good early chances for Rovers. Once Hartlepool got going though, they were unstoppable, as Paul Arnison's thumping volley and Eifion Williams' rebound handed them victory.

May 2007 - Hartlepool 1-2 Rovers - Ah, wonderful day. This result, as I'm sure no-one will need reminding, secured our play-off place in 2007, and in pretty dramatic circumstances too. Hartlepool went ahead shortly after the half-hour mark as Joel Porter beat Steve Phillips after being put through, but Rovers responded in the second half, with the excellent Craig Disley brought down in the box. Richard Walker converted the resulting penalty, and, after Byron Anthony had fired over from close range, Rickie Lambert's header sparked delirious scenes in the away end.

October 2007 - Hartlepool 1-0 Rovers - This Friday night game was settled by a first half goal from James Brown, and despite the best efforts of a Rovers side who attacked constantly in the second half, Pools held on.

November 2008 - Hartlepool 1-1 Rovers - An early header from central defender Michael Nelson put Hartlepool ahead here, but Rovers ensured a share of the points when Jeff Hughes ran on to Joe Jacobson's through ball to round goalkeeper Arran Lee-Barrett and slot home. Rovers did though have to withstand second half pressure from the home side, but luckily Steve Phillips was on form.

August 2009 - Hartlepool 1-2 Rovers - Here, we conceded another early goal at Victoria Park as Denis Behan nodded home a cross from the left, but Rovers turned the game around by half-time as Aaron Lescott found the net with a low shot, and then Jo Kuffour got the winner with powerful volley into the near post.

October 2010 - Hartlepool 2-2 Rovers - This was one hell of a late show from Rovers, who had looked set to lose after goals from Joe Gamble and Antony Sweeney, but Jo Kuffour pulled one back after 88 minutes with a header over the goalkeeper, and Byron Anthony nicked a point with a stoppage time finish.

(Our assistant manager, Darrell Clarke, played 127 games for Hartlepool, scoring 19 goals.)

I'll take a draw from this one...........................

im not trying to be negative, im just stating a fact that our away form is the worse in our league. we are the only team yet to score double figures on our travels. i cant remember the last time i predicted an away win for us. hartlepool are a team chasing the play offs and their last 2 home games they won 3-0. so based on our team being the worst in the league on their travels and were facing an inform team who has won their 2 last home games 3-0 - im not being negative, im being realistic. hopefully the players prove me wrong. surely we must win our 2nd away game before the season ends!
i do think also our defeat against dag & red after leading must have burst the players bubble especially after teams above and below us won.

Yes, I can understand why you're going for a Hartlepool win - most neutrals probably would. I don't think it'll be 3-0 though, we do have one of the division's best defensive records after all.

Lee Brown makes his 100th league start for Rovers this afternoon - that's more than any other current squad member. Tom Parkes is on 87, and next up is Michael Smith on 75.

Starts only, sub appearances NOT included.
