Its all happening in this link. Levy in Florida...sanctioning figures with Joe? , and the England job may involve moving to the Midlands...uproot from Sandbanks!! http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/sport...knapp-new-deal-and-50m-war-chest-7545267.html
I doubt if Harry will relocate from Sandbanks. Even when he was on the verge of taking the Barcodes job a few years ago, it was always on the understanding that he would commute by air from his Sandbanks base. I don't know how this will end up. A life-long family friend of mine, plays golf with Harry on a weekly basis, and he assures me Harry would walk to Wembley for the national job. But, he has mentioned recently that Harry is genuinely affected by the warmth and support Daniel Levy has shown towards him. Nothing new in me saying that, but I can tell you that the 5 day break Harry and his wife enjoyed in Dubai in the week immediately after his trial finshed, was paid for out of Levy's personal money as a 'thank you present'.
Hi Spurcat, yeah I know he won't move, thats why I hope that part of the FA requirement is true. Harry's ability post heart problem needs considering, for that length of commute, perhaps more than first thought with this hands on approach at lower levels in Leicester, again they haven't specified how much time is spent doing this, but maybe they've filled in the gaps in the International calender when previous managers have cleared off round the world relaxing, and made it a fulltime position. All this remains to be verified but its a valid point about Chelsea vying for a top manager, which is clearly a major concern for us now, imo Harry's hand will be forced sooner rather than in the summer now, and if so, I hope this doesn't unsettle the team and the run in. It's just so Spurs isn't it! It was all going so well!
Evening mate I don't like to be cynical about Harry, but there's no doubt in my mind, he manipulated the Barcodes job offer to wangle an extra £milliion per year out of Pompey and I wouldn't put it past him to do the same with us over this England situation. The other reservation I have about Harry's commitment, is that when the Liverpool job was up for grabs in the summer of 2010, he made it quite clear to Liverpool through Alan Hansen, who he was working with for the BBC in SA, that he would be interested in any offer Pool might like to make him. You may think that unlikely as we had of course just qualified for the CL, but Harry and Levy had parted for the summer break on very dificult terms because Harry felt he deserved an open cheque book and Levy declining to give him one. As I say, this Harry/England could develop into a real saga.
I had no idea on the Pool thing , but I do remember that frosty period of frustration when a few deals fell off over Levy's hardball. You can just see Harry saying to himself "ffs man, just pay it"...I know I do! To be fair on Levy his hands were economically tied then, while we still suffered with the 'Comolli wage bill aftermath'. Sales were necessary, but didn't happen. you can just see Harry saying to himself "ffs man, just sell the twat!"
I can't help but feel that all of this is being worked out behind closed doors and to the detriment of our team, at the moment. Another bloody distraction this season? Really? Wasn't the court case enough? England's silence on a new manager may well just be because this hasn't sorted itself out yet. They may well have given Redknapp a deadline to decide. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but they've backed themselves into a corner by promising an English manager and Capello walking/being pushed has left them in a difficult position.
If he genuinly wants to stay, then I'm glad. Give him the rise he deserves and the financial backing that we can afford. If he only wants to stay if we outbid England then he should just take the job with the FA. The latter could blow up in his face, however, were the FA not to go for him.
I don't think the FA are interested in a manager that wants to take all the old guard on one last hurrah. Harry's cv against the top clubs isn't good reading this season either, the manager has to take some responsibility for that, before anyone mentions Modricgate, Mancini has steered City through Tevezgate Ballotelligate etc etc. In fact the only top club with some stability is United...nothing unusual for them to benefit from others misfortunes though!
its quite possible that Levy told Harry- while you're away have a think about things. And I am convinced that the players are affected by all this, since it all came to light they have been playing like they're waiting for something to happen. Some of our key performers are really down on form and it shows.
Although, unlike before the McLaren appointment, they have come out and said that the new manager might not be British. Also - anyone know how trustworthy Harry Hotspurs' site is (only evidence I can think of is when he said that the Bentley move was a "done deal" several weeks before it actually materialised)? Cos he's saying (via an "impeccable source") that Harry is definitely walking... http://harry-hotspur.com/2012/03/im-told-arry-to-quit-at-the-end-of-the-season/
All those I don't get the players Levy does comments make sense if there was some friction between the two. I was often baffled by Harry's comments when he seemed to be rocking the boat.
I wonder where he's going if he's not offered it? , he is only the media and pundits (whose opinion we slate every week) choice so far.
Yeah - I can't see (unless there's been a LOT of goings-on behind the scenes in both the England and Spurs camps) how that could be accurate. Even if the "impeccable source" has heard first-hand that Harry wants the England job there are still lots of dots to be joined up. Let's be honest, though - even the media and pundits can't be far wrong with the "Harry for England" bandwagon. There are so few candidates. And the popularity of Harry with the public at large will surely be a factor for the FA.
I can see negatives... Do the FA really want there coach yapping in The Sun very week, bad publicity a mere sentence away! His preference of using experience, stifling the FA's current push on developing youth. International football not really suited to Harry's have a go policy, a lot of games are cagey and harry can be tactically inept in these situations and get picked off. Age. Medical.
i heard on the new's this morning the fa has sent a letter to harry asking him not to talk about the England job, when asked why he did'nt know
