I just read up on him. Does anyone else find it amazing what happens to these players? Chelsea signed him in 2005 for £150k (not a small ammount back then). He was included in their match day squad in the community shield against Man Utd. He is now only 24 and playing for Oxford united, after playing for us when we got relegated and a variety of other clubs. What happens to these players? There are plenty more like him too. Do they not care? Or were they never that good, just early developers? Or things just not work out in their favour? Id be interested to hear what people think
If they develop the buzz that some youth players do, then they will start at the top and work backwards down the league.
Some top ability players fall by the wayside..its not just about ability though...their heads have to be right, and the burning ambiton has to be there..a surprising number of lads don't love the game, just make a living out of it...it beats me..,
When a top club buys youth, particualrly here for £150k, you expect they see something. Even if they dont make it there, you wouldnt expect them to end up at Oxford. A lot of players do this though, i think it just shows the importance of your 'next move' after the big club
Its because the top clubs take on any young player who looks half decent so in the end they got loads of players who just arent good enough and end up falling through the leagues. On Harry Worley he started that game at Stoke. That I thing was his only appearance for us
This. Plus if a player does turn out to be a gem, it means they have dodged paying millions to a club for their services.
Worley was quality on Football Manager, I brought him through the ranks at Chelsea alongside John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho (shameful I know). Wait a minute, reality more important...
