Harry says he won't walk away if QPR fail to get promotion 28 Feb 2014 22:20 Manager expects to stay after discussion with board at end of season Share on print Share on email Under fire: QPR boss Harry Redknapp has come in for criticism Under-fire boss Harry Redknapp insists he wonât quit QPR â even if the club fails to win promotion from the Championship. In a heated Friday press conference, the man in charge believes the board might make that decision for him, but the 66-year-old shook both head and metaphorical fist at those who say his job is under threat. Rangers are winless in four, and have just a single goal to show for the last three games going into tomorrowâs home clash with Leeds. But the manager reckons not only is his job safe for the time being â he wondered out loud why the panic? âBeing fourth in the league is not the worst we can be in. Weâre not sitting fourth from bottom or even halfway," he said. âWe bought in two top players, got rid of 18, but unfortunately both of them (Charlie Austin and Matt Phillips) are injured. âWhere are Wolves? Where are Bolton who came down from the Premier League? Reading and Wigan both came down with us and weâre still sitting above them. "I must be misreading the script somewhere. Iâve been in this job a long time and I donât understand it.â For all that, if Rangers were to miss out, the manager can see a summit meeting on the horizon. âI would talk to the owners, talk to them, and see where we go from there,â he said. âWest Ham came down a couple of years ago with a good team and they got up with the play-offs. âWe can still get automatic (promotion), but if not it we can still go up with the play-offs.â
Stand by everyone for an overwhelming sense of deja vu if things don't go well - Harold is getting his excuses in order for blame allocation, with players he brought to the club and talked up to the heavens first in line, owners second and, if he's dumped, fans in there too. One way to avoid this - lets win some games lads! COYRs (whoever you are)!
“We bought in two top players, got rid of 18, but unfortunately both of them (Charlie Austin and Matt Phillips) are injured." So does he have no responsibility for the vast numbers of underperforming superstars who arrived miraculously under loan agreements. You know the ones I mean Harry. They've all played for you before. Or were they all forced on you by that naïve owner you kept thanking for the support he has shown you. Isn't his contract up at the end of the season anyway? If so, he's not going to be able to sit tight and tell Tony to sack and pay him off.
Brace yourself Yorkshire, he's got another season to go......but at least the pay off is only one yea's inflated salary then.....
Why don't we just get behind him & the team for once until end of season & then see what happens instead of all ths slagging off,
He started it sir - may be unfair because in this day and age managers are required to speak to the Press at set times but then it would be nice to hear some self-critical evaluation rather than self-congratulation for removing 18 players off the wage bill and only bringing in two. He can speak but if he manipulates the facts to portray a distorted message he shouldn't expect all of us to swallow it and say thank you
The more I think about things, I just can't work out why we're not playing more attacking football. Harry has always been renowned for playing attacking football, with wide players etc. However, he hasn't always picked teams equipped to do that. On the other hand, when he has, the players have spectacularly failed to deliver. So............is it the players or Harry? I'm beginning to think that it's a mixture of the two. He can't motivate them and they can't motivate themselves (not all of them, but the "names").
It's for this very reason that I don't slate MH as much as some on here. Hill, Dunne and Barton care. You can visibly see it in their performances. We still have at least four or five first team players who IMO are going through the motions week in and week out. These players are simply paid way way too much. When I watch a match, the first thing I look for is energy and effort. Not going through the motions but genuine desire to make that run, put in that tackle, win that header and muscle the opposition off the ball. Of course all this alone won't win a match but football is a physical sport and I've always believed that quality only wins you a match after you've won the physical battle.
You're right mate. All the top coaches preach that you need to earn the right to play by winning the physical battle or at least by "pressing" with high energy. We don't do this............our opponents do!
Now is the time when Harry and his inflated staff must earn their wages. We look lacklustre and void of ideas. I want to see us working and playing as a team. I can take defeat but I can't stomach a lack of effort or desire. After all the questioning of Harry this week, I expect to see a response from the team today.
I see the blame game has already started and the prick is already thinking of a payoff because he knows hes a failure and is trying to make it look like he wasnt backed. 2 players? I bet the media wont call him out on those lies, how about Dunne, Henry, Oneill, Donaldson, the Brazilian, Benayoun. All permanent signings.
2 points from the last 15, I reckon the next two games, away at Brum and Brighton, are critical for Harold and his staff. Very few managers survive a seven match winless streak.
Those are two games we'd normally be happy to take a couple of draws from, but we desperately need a win to give us a boost. Are you still on for the Brighton game Stan?...
Was never going to Brighton Sooper, but may well drift over to St Andrews, its only 40minutes for me....
Weds away on 18th will be tough Can report a v nice goats cheese & caramelised red onion tart at Weds v Boro today. Hoping to catch Ledesma post match to sign my '67 cup winners replica shirt
