Harry Redknapp resignation forced me to leave QPR... it's sad because I think we would have kept them up Harry Redknapp resigned from his role at QPR due to knee injury QPR coach Glenn Hoddle decided to quit as Redknapp brought him in Hoddle will work as TV pundit while he weighs up future options By Glenn Hoddle For The Mail On Sunday Published: 22:57 GMT, 7 February 2015 | Updated: 23:03 GMT, 7 February 2015 View comments It was sad to leave Queens Park Rangers this week but once Harry Redknapp had decided that he couldn’t go on, it felt like the right thing to leave at the same time. Harry brought me in there to do a specific job and, once he had gone, there seemed no point in staying. It was a surprise how quickly it all turned out. please log in to view this image SHARE PICTURE Copy link to paste in your message +4 Glenn Hoddle decided to leave QPR following Harry Redknapp's resignation from the west London outfit please log in to view this image SHARE PICTURE Copy link to paste in your message +4 Hoddle enjoyed his time at QPR but it was only right to leave the club following Redknapp's departure Harry has been in pain for some time with his knees and the news that he needed an operation was a real blow to him. Last time that happened he was on crutches for 12 weeks. That said, we were in and out of the relegation zone and I reckon if Harry had been able to stay, we would have climbed out of the bottom three once again. Everyone on the coaching staff was aware that we needed better results. But equally it looked as though fortunes were going to ebb and flow throughout the season among the teams towards the bottom. Each week another team or manager seems to be under pressure. We were confident we could make sure it wasn’t us by the end of the season. I’ve heard all the theories as to why he left but I don’t believe it was related to the January transfer window. The club tried to bring in the right players but, as deadline day approached, it simply became harder and harder. please log in to view this image SHARE PICTURE Copy link to paste in your message +4 The 57-year-old coach joined Queens Park Rangers' coaching team in August 2014 I have enjoyed the past six months, however. I’ve never been in a pure coaching role before and, though I was apprehensive when I went into it, I discovered that I really enjoyed it. Clearly as manager there has to be a degree of distance between you and the team. You’re always the man who has dropped half of the squad, so it’s impossible to be too close. But that wasn’t the case as a coach and I found I liked being that much closer to the players. I also enjoyed coaching the Under 21s at times. There are a good crop of players coming through at QPR from there. My hope for the club is that they do now stay up under a new manager. There were some good people at the club and I enjoyed my time there. As for the future, I have some business interests and I enjoy writing this column and of course I have my punditry with Sky Sports and ITV. Some offers have come in but for now I’ll take stock and work out what is best for me and my family. please log in to view this image SHARE PICTURE Copy link to paste in your message +4 Hoddle (far left, pictured at the World Cup) will focus on his punditry work before deciding on his future Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2944247/Harry-Redknapp-resignation-forced-leave-QPR-s-sad-think-kept-up.html#ixzz3R6UpozMJ Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook

The former England and Tottenham manager joined Rangers last August after he was asked by Redknapp to join the first-team coaching set-up. When Redknapp quit last Tuesday because he needs urgent knee surgery, he recommended to chairman Tony Fernandes and Head of Football Operations Les Ferdinand that the 57-year-old take over. But after a talk with Ferdinand, Hoddle decided to leave, saying it was an act of loyalty to Redknapp who had given him the chance to work again in the Premier League. Fernandes wants the club to take a new direction with the accent on youth and the introduction of more homegrown talent. Tim Sherwood — who left Spurs after a caretaker spell to make way for Mauricio Pochettino last summer — remains the hot favourite to take over. Kevin Bond and Chris Ramsey are in temporary charge.
"Harry brought me in there to do a specific job and, once he had gone, there seemed no point in staying." I'm still trying to establish what he actually did? He doesn't really say what he did, maybe he didn't know either!
Interesting underlying tone to one of his comments. He seems to believe that the fate of the teams in the relegation spots will "ebb and flow". If that happens despite all your efforts, why bother doing the job? If you don't think you can make a difference, get out of the way so someone who does can take your place.... Oh, he did. Good. My only fear is that Harry's mates will just be replaced by Tim's mates.
It's a perculiar thing in football that all the staff come and go with the manager. I believe some clubs have put a stop to this to prevent a lack of continuity but also to prevent a management team that, from the owners, perspective may lack transparency and which brings in the 'loyal' rather than the best.
You 'stay loyal' to someone who is sacked, not someone who resigns because of ill health. But however bizarre the statement, good decision Glenn.
And he says they (him and Harry) would have kept QPR up? Go back to your fortune teller you weird muppet.
