QPR transfers: Harry Redknapp jets to Malaysia to discuss Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch with his chairman Dec 17, 2014 22:30 By John Cross Relegation-threatened Hoops' boss pulled out of TV pundit duty on Bournemouth vs Liverpool cup tie in favour of summit about potential January signings Together again? Can Redknapp convince QPR to sign 32-year-old Defoe? Harry Redknapp cancelled a TV appearance to make a whistle-stop trip to Malaysia to meet with chairman Tony Fernandes. Queens Park Rangers boss Redknapp was due to be on Skyâs panel at his former club Bournemouth for their Capital One Cup tie with Liverpool. But Redknapp pulled out at the last minute to fly to the Far East to discuss transfer targets for January with Fernandes likely to sanction spending to get them out of danger. Redknapp wants Jermain Defoe of MLS side Toronto, who has played for him at West Ham, Spurs and Portsmouth, and has also been linked with a move for Stoke's QPR old boy Peter Crouch, who Redknapp has worked with previously at Pompey, Southampton and Spurs. Now, he must persuade Fernandes to fund moves for ageing players. Defoe is 32, Crouch turns 34 next month. But it is a sign that the Rs are backing Redknapp after improved results, even if their away form remains a major cause of concern.
kiwiqpr, I'm not convinced. I remain concerned about a story that emerged on Twitter at the beginning of November: @katiehind: I spoke to Jermain Defoe about coming to @QPRFC. He said we are a "joke" and it would take Dynamo to work his magic for us to have success.
Bit cruel for an old man to have to fly thousands of miles to talk to his boss for a few minutes and then fly back again and then be expected to work on a weekend as well. mind you, at least he could get some Christmas pressies in duty free.
I assume we don't have phones or video conferencing at Hq then? No one got a phone with Skype or even that makes a call.....? Obviously all designed for facebook and twitter which HR cant use
The fact is we are not a joke - on home form. It just needs a small tweak with a striker or two and a defender and we can then gain some momentum. However, I do long for the day when we are in for better / younger strikers than Defoe and Crouch. (Loic Remy. I know, I know!!).
How many times has he bought those 2 ? Another brown envelope stuffed with cash for Harry's dog in Monaco again .
I can't believe that Redknapp would be asked to travel all that way just to discuss transfer targets. More likely TF had something to tell him that he didn't want to impart over the phone. Or is that wishful thinking?
